7-7-7 was a lucky day!!
Good guess! Apparently New Jersey didn't sell out all 500,000 tickets but decided to have the drawing and payout the advertised prizes because they had passed the break-even point of 250,000 tickets. Since the highest $1,000,000 winning ticket number was well under 250,000 (183,895) and the poster claimed their dad bought the ticket the day before , it's almost impossible to believe the New Jersey Lottery crossed their fingers and hoped they would sell 67,000 tickets the next day to cross

In Ohio, you can buy MegaMillions tickets as long as the stores keep their terminals opened. Some 24hr. service stations keep theirs opened all the time except when they're down for updating and servicing. If you buy MM tickets too close to 10:45PM on the night of the drawing, they may be for the next drawing.

Looking at the results from the drawing they would have had to sell close to 200000 tickets on the last day before the drawing for your dad to even get $500 and possibly $25,000 and 300000 tickets for $100,000.

07-07-07 is coming!
You've got to realize that they haven't even sold enough tickets to cover the prizes offered and then on top of that they need to sell enough tickets to cover the cost of advertising. I don't expect KY to have the drawing for atleast two more months at the rate tickets are selling. I'm guessing that around 300000 tickets sold they may start talk about having the drawing.

Did you know in PB/MM ...
REmember also you are basing your odds on buying only ONE ticket for ONE drawing. Considering many people play 5 tickets almost every drawing the odds of winning at some point are better still.

Glitch Delays Jersey Cash 5 Lottery Drawing
I got 3 of 5 on the Friday drawing on one ticket. Also 3 of 5 earlier in week when the machine was still OK! Once or twice in the past the machine failed during the drawing and the hostess reached in and grabbed out the fifth ball while looking away from the machine.

when will we see a 500 million dollar jackpot?
I say the next 5 years. More and more people get jackpot fever each time the jackpot gets real big, which results in bigger rolls. I think Mega Millions will make it before PowerBall will though. I think when it does happen, there will be a $400,000,000 jackpot with a following roll to $500,000,000. I'll probably make the 2 hour drive to Ohio for the $400,000,000 drawing and choose multidraw so I can also be counted in on the $500,000,000 drawing.

how many lottery tickets a week
*sigh* I purchase a $1 ticket for each drawing. The fact is, that someone who spends $1000 each drawing really has no better chances of winning the jackpot than I do. $2 Dollars max a week. Anything more than that is just a fools tax.
