A Model for What to do with the Jackpot You just Won
OldSchoolPA writes: If you're not making MORE money, then you are losing money...literally and to inflation. I actually don't think age is the sole determining factor in investing style I agree completely that if you are not making more money, you are indeed losing. I never said not to invest your money wisely. Imagine having $10 million just making an average of 8%. That's $800,000 a year!! That money also earns interest, since it is compounded. However, even if you only put $

10x powerplay is back!
Thanks for the info... I intend to play every draw during the promotional period. I know the Jackpot is realistically too hard to hit, but I like going for the lower tier prizes . With the multiplier feature, and when the 10x is in play....so much the better ! Can you just imagine hitting 5 white balls with the 10x and pocketing a cool $ 2 million ( no annuity ) ??? Good luck to all... DD

Wonder where the other half of 390 mill is?
Most people don't expect to win that much money so even the cash or annuity option would depend on when it happened. We could discuss the pros and cons of either but the only opinion that counts is the ticket holder and we know that Nabors already made up his mind. State lottery commissions have already cashed multi-million dollar tickets so most legal questions have been asked and answered but it would still be a good idea to have your lawyer present. It's the lottery's job to write the chec

Playslip, accidently gets run more than 1X
So, let's say that a transvestite with an atrological sign of Gemini (of course) played the same ticket in two places (as geminis will) and hit solid, 5 and the bonus ball. So Carl decides to go for the cash option, and then Karla decides on an annuity. Might be a bit of sticky wicket getting them both to the same press conference at the same time, though! Of course, as Karl thought about his numbers, he had Walking Around in Women's Underwear playinhg in the background.

Lottery winner followed careful spending plan
The thing I need to figure out is what algorithm he used. He hinted that he took the 15 numbers that came out the most in the last 6 months, which is a very basic frequency count, and maybe he used one of those balanced wheeling systems, as even with his system you would face huge odds to match 5 out of 15 plus the bonus (? out of ?)... I grabbed an old data file from 2005 and tossed in a special PB loader into my big program and tested for that drawing. It was 39-24-05-28-07 Powerball: 36. T

Top 10% Jackpot of Powerball
I got curious and did the math. Here are my findings based on the annuity value of the 151 PB draws since the matrix change on 8/31/05, including the upcoming draw on 2/7/07: Average - $84.5 million Median - $64 million 25th percentile - $30m 75th percentile - $115m 90th percentile - $195m (next lowest jackpot is $180m) I'll post the average and median stats in a minute only for the draws in which the jackpot was won.

$254 million Powerball lottery ticket richest ever in Missouri
JXP, Hope you caught my little tongue in cheek comment. Others may not have, but I bet you did.... I think at our ages ( 45 to 55 ) we should choose cash. The annuity is nice, but we could play our investments right and have OUR OWN annuities for a lonnng time.. I matched the first two numbers, so you can imagine that my heart rate went up a bit before reality set in.. DAM !! only 4 numbers off LOL !! DD

powerball rolls
Grengrad, you think too much. At 25, how much money will it take for you to live the rest of your life, let's say to age 85, at $75,000/year. The answer is 4.5 mill. So take the cash, put 4.5-6 mill in some SAFE things and be done with it, then relax and enjoy the rest. You can do what you outline above, but to me, if I did that, it reeks of having to babysit it every day, and I don't want to do that. I would go to Fidelity and Schwab, throw it in 4-6 funds that do kinda what you
