$1.5 BILLION: Wednesday Powerball record jackpot still rising
Walt Hickey at FiveThirtyEight ran a couple of models. One, similar to yours, has 554m tickets sold and an 85% chance of at least one winner. The other has 1.2b sold and a 98% chance of at least one winner. According to the lower model, there's a natural ceiling at about 600m tickets sold -- there's only so many people willing to put money into the lottery no matter how big it gets. But there's so little data on jackpots this size, who knows?
He says it's not a good bet, though, because hi

Countdown Is On.. How You Gonna Play?
I usually never play anything beyond the Pick 3. I thought it be helpful to first gain some decent mastery in the game of trinity , before pivoting toward the Pick 4/5/6/ and jackpots games. But if I'm tempted to experiment early and join in the Wednesday fun, I'll use a balanced matrix to make my picks.
The Magic Square of Mercury is a good candidate, because each row and column sum up to the same constant of 260. Its an 8x8 square from 1 to 64. I whimsically wish there existed a 8.306623862

I think that powerball has crossed the line what do you think?
I don't think they have crossed the line even though it's almost scary to imagine being a solo winner of a jackpot this large.
However I do think that with jackpots this big all states need to re-evaluate winner anonymity.
On the bright side it is enough money to buy/build yourself a secure compound and acquire a Knight XV armored vehicle.

Iowa Lottery CEO Terry Rich to answer lottery player questions live Monday evening
You mean odds that are in favor of the person providing the prize? Duh, it's a business, the purpose is to make money, make a profit, there is no obligation to make you rich. You are spending a very very small amount of money to possibly win a very very large amount of money, I don't understand why people cry about this or complain if they don't win. There is no other investment on the planet where you can get these kinds of yields. I have 3 friends who have won multi-million dollar jackpots ove

What are your thoughts on a continuously escalating jackpot?
As these jackpots continuously rise. I have maintain all my senses. I have never played the Big Games with just one line. Im not starting that now! After a 2 1/2 hour drive one way , a two hour wait in line etc.... The best thing going is to purchase more draws on the tickets. Be prepare, there are a lot of new people playing for the first. If you get in a place like I was Sunday. It was a Quick Picks only buy in. This place run out of play long ago. People are going to be asking you questions I

Lower Tax Burden for Winners?
There are many things to consider. One is the extra 3.8% Obamacare tax that kicks in around $250,0000 and another is the Pease fine (kicks in around $300,000).
Effectively, with these big jackpots, what the Pease fine does is it fines you about 33% of your charitable contribution. Thus for every $3 dollars you give to charity you have to pay a $1 in fines to the U.S. Government.
eg If you give away $3 million then you pay a $1 million fine.
At any rate its just another reason y

Are you ready for the attention?
I would say: I am not ready for it and probably no one really is. But I am getting a few tickets anyway. All I (and probably many people) want is to have say $5 million to be able to quit work, have a nice house, be able to travel and have some fun and get some nice things and help a few friends. I think I could deal with the money, assuming I had good lawyers and investment people to keep it safe; that would be figures on a screen and sort of abstract to me. What would be hard to deal with woul

I think that powerball has crossed the line what do you think?
I agree with some of what you wrote, but the problem with that is it's not what most people want.
Monopoly Millionaire was geared for players who think the way you do. Smaller jackpots with more frequent winners. It didn't even last a year because contrary to what people said they wanted, in actuality they didn't.
People don't want a once in a lifetime opportunity which requires them to still have to go to work after all the bills are paid. If it's going to be once in a lifetime, it's got

I think that powerball has crossed the line what do you think?
In that case I suggest you take your own advice and lighten up since I did exactly what you're doing now and shared my thoughts. This entire thread is geared towards one set of people thinking that it would be better for all mankind if these types of lotteries didn't exist. One person trying to label others as greedy for them wanting to see a bigger jackpot is personalizing things. Especially when there are so so so many other jackpots out there that do exactly what they want.
Why should the
