They probably expected a more than the 32% increase in sales than they had. The 36 of the 369,698,113 tickets sold matching five numbers were more than probability making up for the previous drawing. If PB climbs to over $1 billion with only one winning ticket, I'm wondering if lottery players will start asking for demanding a game with more jackpot winning tickets. One winner getting over $1.5 billion or one hundred winners getting $15 million?

Probability is different than the arithmetic we normally use for a lot of other things, and not very intuitive. The number of combinations sold isn't linear, so selling twice as many tickets doesn't use twice as many combinations. With small sales there aren't a lot of repeats, so selling 30.26 million tickets (about 1/10th as many tickets as possible combinations) would use 9.82% of combinations. Doubling sales to 60.52 million would use 18.13%, so fairly close to twice as many combinations.

Think about it. A $990 million jackpot was raised to $1.6 billion or by $700 million, but the Delaware site is saying a $1.6 million pot will only increase by $400 million. Not buying it.

If there is no winner at the $1 billion maximum ticket buying frenzy level, if 43% of combinations were not covered even at $1 billion, that says to me that the combinations covered probably won't go above 75% even if the jackpot is $2 billion. I am on a budget and I want to get a piece of the action on the biggest Mega Millions drawing. So since it rolled to $900M, does that mean it will increase to a billion or will it roll over to a billion. Sorry, resuccess, but your optimism is not going to be a realistic answer.

Yeah sure if you look at it that was it was a frenzy but I was comparing the numbers from one lottery to another not just from one draw to the next. To me for a frenzy it would have to increase much faster. Like this next draw, after the numbers it might indicate a frenzy, surely we should see one on next Tuesday and positively by next Friday.
