Piqua lottery winners sued by co-workers
Another office pool, another lawsuit.
It seems a bit unlikely that the people in the pool would refuse them their share if this was a legit case.
The pool even had no problem with 1 person getting two shares, because he put an extra dollar in for his mom.
That would make it seem clear that the pool required you to actually put in 1 dollar per share for a given drawing. Also, since these people each put in a dollar for this pool, any winnings that did roll over would give the other 4 a s

Michigan $42M lottery winner to claim jackpot today
Winner will take the full annuity payout
The owner of a winning $42 million Mega Millions ticket, sold at a Macomb County, Michigan, liquor store, is expected to show up at Lottery headquarters Friday to collect the fortune.
Lottery officials are being tight-lipped about the winner's identity, and won't even disclose if it's a man or a woman. The mystery person or persons will be revealed Friday at a news conference.
The winner may do something almost unheard of: receive the money in in

a "tax" question for those in the know
Wow! Thanks for all the helpful advice. If I understand things correctly, this is the scenario that would be copasetic under IRS rules and regulations (and note that I'm discussing a one-time cash-option payout, not an annuity scenario).
If a person wins a jackpot between January 1st and Novenber 1st, 2008, it must be declared as income for the 2008 tax year - regardless of whether the ticket is redeemed in 2008 or 2009. But, if a person wins a jackpot between November 2nd and December 31st,

What would you do if you actually won?
I pretty much just use this site to play Sudoku but noticed this topic under Latest Posts . I don't play Powerball unless the jackpot gets over $200 million and have probably only bought 3 tickets in my entire life. However, I do love the topic of what would you do with an enormous sum of money that you didn't have to work for . I think it says a lot about who a person is and not necessarily good versus bad.
If I won over $200 million, I'd probably choose annuity payments. (Please don't expla

Minn. Lottery office hears from $180M Powerball winner
Officials at the Minnesota State Lottery headquarters said today they have heard from someone who claims to be holding the winning Powerball ticket from Saturday's drawing that's worth $180.1 million.
But nothing is official until that person comes forward and presents the ticket for certification at the lottery's Roseville office, a lottery spokeswoman said.
That's not likely to happen today, but it could happen this week. We are eager to find out, she said.
Lottery officials confirm

Three men charged with stealing $1M from lottery winner
The GameGrl Writes: THe Bank industry only guarantees 250K of it be insured. So if they lose 750k of it from your account, ohh well, that interest compounding wont mean a thing. So the guy did the right thing by getting a safe.
Who told you this fact? Not true. You can keep $250,000 in a bank IRA, but otherwise that $250,000 limit is not mentioned anywhere on the FDIC web site or in their rules. People keep much more than that in banks.
Forgetting about all the entitlements ($100,000 for

I think it's a toss up between Quick Picks or Your Own Numbers Annuity vs Cash.
Remaining anonymous is a close second.

$220M Mega Millions lottery jackpot advice offered
It is clear that all of the advisors are biased toward fee based planners (I happen to not be a fee based planner, but my clients all know I do an excellent job for them).
So this is what I would do when I win the Mega Millions jackpot:
1) No need to cold call celebrities...I will meet with my Primerica RVP and invest a large portion of the funds in various load mutual funds.
2) Consult with my PLPP law firm about setting up trusts and go through estate planning. Have already determined

Suggested QP VS Choosing Survey Project
Okay - here's a question. Maybe Todd has specific information, but are the results that are displayed the next morning with the location manually entered or does a computer list them? The reason for this curiosity is that many times 5 or 6 winners used their own numbers, not a QP as you suggest is more common. I mentioned this before, but look at last night's game (I won't list the stores to save space)
Five players matched all five winning numbers in the Friday drawing and will share a $2
