Pay for tickets w/ credit card? NYC promotions
I assume US States are trying to PREVENT FRAUD, by NOT accepting credit cards. If states did accept credit cards, the lottery ticket printed out, should indicate that it was a credit card transaction, so that if it is a winning ticket, the winner should be required to present official photo proof [like drivers license] that he/she is the rightful owner of the credit card, to insure that the credit card is not borrowed from a friend/relative, without permission or stolen. Even if this was

California store owner sues customer for half of $1M lottery prize
We've seen stories like this so many times that I feel it's high time the lottery vendor rules get changed. The owner of any establishment selling lottery tickets should be prohibited from making lottery claims. It should be enough that they are awarded a percentage of a winning ticket amount. They should not be allowed to purchase tickets, nor should they be allowed to make a claim on a customer's ticket. Contract or not. I am sick and tired of hearing about these shopkeepers taking advantage o

Safely Investing Your Winnings...Or Not
Oprah is a freaking genius. I remember her saying this while trying to give Toni Braxton financial advice after Toni's 1st bankruptcy and Toni went on a whining campaign about how mean Oprah was to her. Oprah told her never let anyone else pay your bills, sign all your own checks and always know exactly how much money you have coming in before you spend. Toni said she was too busy to sign her checks and monitor what was going in and out and Oprah said, well I'm busy too and you have to make t

Claiming as a legal entity
good luck to you! Just make sur you have everyone in the group sign a contract stating how the group will claim the prize ie lump sum vs annuity, who will be the primary name, where the tickets will be purchased, how often an d by who....etc. Include a provision about personal tickets if someone should purchase a winner. Make sure everyone has a copy of the tickets. THen relax, purchase your own personal tickets at another location, at a different time with a receipt, to protect you from the grou

Montana's $1M lottery raffle winner sued for half of prize
Michael Hess said he went to the store to purchase Montana Millionaire tickets on Dec. 23, and told Fallang if he won, he'd split his winnings, according to documents filed in Helena district court Thursday. I then told Jeff I would as long as if he was to win we would split it in half, Hess said in a signed affidavit. Sounds like Hess did all the talking and now he thinks he has an enforceable contract.

Montana's $1M lottery raffle winner sued for half of prize
I'm surprised by how many people are using the witnesses as a tie breaker. The first thing I considered was that they might have been promised a cut for their testimonies. Why was the deli worker even in on the conversation? Was he on a break or is the deli counter that close to the ticket counter? Seems odd. Another point, unless Hess and the winner were friends, I really don't care if there was a supposed verbal agreement. As has been pointed out by many here, it's become pretty normal for

Ohio New Year Raffle
I bought one early. At that time on the ticket and on their website the drawing was listed as January 2. Now it has been extended to January 5 according to the Ohio lottery website. I don't think this is right. They say they are giving you more time to play , when the real reason is they have not sold as many tickets as they wanted to. Tickets sold by the original January 2 noon deadline will now have smaller odds of winning since more tickets are being sold through January 5. How many people bo

Monopoly Millionaires game
If they bring the game back, as long as it has the Monopoly theme, they will award Monopoly hats to MMC winners. It's part of the contract I've been mentioning. And again, there are no hats. Each lottery is given 3 samples for sizing purposes only and they're not allowed to give them away. Once they learn the winner's head size, then the hats are produced and shipped directly to each winner. So it's not like the lottery has a stockpile, like they do with their branded t-shirts and mugs. I'

Monopoly Millionaires game
Well given their vendor contract, I suspect they are largely stuck with the current format. The only benefit of nobody being aware of the game is that the TV show might be the first many people hear about it. Therefore, they may get an initial boost of sales when it re-launches. But I expect the sales will drop again when the novelty wears off and people realize how bad the odds really are for the prizes. In any event, keep us posted since we cannot rely on the state lotteries or the MMC
