Why an Annuity?
The reason is simple. Big jackpots sell more tickets, and annuities allow lotteries to inflate jackpots higher than they really are. That means more tickets are sold for the same amount in the kitty.

Winning Mega Millions lottery ticket sold in Cincinnati
Congratulations to Ohio for winning the MM ticket. It's the 3rd time in a row that OH has won the jackpot in MM. It is the only state winning MM Jackpots this year so far. Also, they won two jackpots in a row over $200 million.

Obituary: Richard Paulson, 62, Washington Lottery Spokesman
Sales under him were great. Now we have computer drawn games with jackpots that move as fast as a slug on a salt bed. The lottery started in 84 and some of the early jackpots had terrific sales but back then a $10+ million jackpot was a big deal.

13 State Employees to Share $224 Million Powerball Lottery Jackpot
I post these news stories, so I have a good feel for what kind of winners are out there. Most of the winners, by far, are solo players/winners. (A couple claiming a prize is still a solo winner.) You see an increase in pool winners for these big jackpots because the number of pools greatly increases when the jackpots get big. But they are still the minority of winners.

I predict Powerball will roll
With the few border jumpers as a result of both jackpots being over $100 million cash, it's very possible both jackpots will set records and we may very well see a $400 million jackpot, especially from Mega Millions.

If you only had...
It says 3 bucks for spending on the lottery. Depends if this is a per drawing, week or day. People who play the daily game usually play every day. I just save the cash up for when the jackpots are high. If it's per day then it's a 1/2 a pack habit. Personally I have a pack a day habit but if jackpots stay low it would be much less.

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Interest rates were the reason why MM jackpots are hitting new records at this point. In addition, people are buying more MM tickets than expected. I wish it continues to roll and set records. The lower the interest rates and more jackpot winners it produced, the fewer the interest in the game as well as lower jackpots in the future.

LP Members Winning Jackpots
How much have you won since you have played lotteries? What option did you choose? QP or ONS (Own Number Selection)? Did you win MM, PB, State Lotteries, or Combination?
