New Maryland Lottery Director appointed
Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley Friday announced the appointment of Stephen L. Martino as director of the Maryland State Lottery Agency.

S.C. Lottery sales up by 3 percent; Powerball sales down
It's early yet, but the multi-state lottery game Mega Millions has not sent lottery ticket sales shooting through the roof in South Carolina.
Overall, sales are up about 3 percent. But sales for the state's other multi-state game Powerball are down.
For roughly its first month of operation in South Carolina, the Mega Millions jackpot game had sales of $2.3 million, according to state lottery figures, as South Carolinians got their first crack at a second, high-sweepstakes game.

W.V. Lottery offers $15 million for office tower
West Virginia's plan to purchase the City Center West office tower for the Lottery Commission is $7 million short of the owner's asking price, according to state and local officials familiar with the negotiations.
The state Department of Administration's Real Estate Division has offered to buy the 13-story building for $15 million. Building owner General Corp. wants $22 million.

Despite hefty increases in promotional spending, lottery ticket sales and profits have declined in North Dakota during the past two years and led to a large reduction in the lottery's financial reserves.

The North Carolina Education Lottery may not be recession-proof, but it's posting financial returns that would be a long shot for almost any other business in this economic environment.

Arkansas Lottery Commission votes to join Powerball
The Arkansas Lottery Commission voted Wednesday to join the multi-state Powerball games, tickets for which may go on sale in the state as soon as this year, the state's lottery director said.
The commission accepted an invitation from the Multi-State Lottery Association and the Powerball Group to join Powerball, which is played in 30 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
