If you won a lottery jackpot..........
Quote: Originally posted by rundown99 on February 18, 2005Despite the option of forming a blind trust and remaining anonymous, it seems like many people are going public instead. What are your thoughts?I think it varies depending on the state. In some states, a trust or LLC can be used to claim winnings, while in others it cannot. In my state, winnings can be claimed through a trust and that is how I would do it. I wouldn't do the press conference, interviews, or anything like that. I wouldn'

Forming a trust to claim prize

The exception would be documents pertaining to national security. Again I'm no expert, but I think

Secret Lottery millionaire leaves fortune to charities
Everyone that wins the lottery has the right to remain anonymous. If people decide they don't want to, they can opt for publicity. Anonymity rights should also be applied here in the US. If you are anonymous when you buy a ticket you should remain so after you won. As long as the ticket is verified independently no one should think there is anything scandalous going on. People only want to know the identies of big winners out of sheer gossip value. All lotteries wins should also remain tax free

Claiming anonymously or signing your name
For those that end up claiming big jackpots through a trust so that they can stay anonymous, does that mean that they couldn't sign the back of their ticket with their own name? Or do you sign the name of the trust? It seems risky to leave the ticket unsigned while doing all the lawyer paperwork, but probably worth staying anonymous. Does anyone know how it works (i.e. can you sign your name but claim as a trust, or is there a way to secure your ticket while you're prepraing your trust)?

anonymous lotto winners anymore?
If you play the lottery in the state of Virgina you CANNOT remain anonymous, especially if you win the jackpot. Virgina will not even allow you to claim it with a trust. Everyone who wins money in a jackpot will have to appear for a press conference plus they will post your photo on their website. The same thing applies to those who win big in the state of Illinois. If you are concerned about anonymity, perhaps you should journey on up to Maryland and get your MM tickets...I have known for jackpo

Remember that anonymous woman who
won that Powerball in SC? Well, I just contacted the SC Lottery and asked them if anyone has requested any further info about the winner (The Freedom of Information.) They emailed me back and said..... Yes. There have been several requests by the media. So apparently, us regular folks with a life would rather just honor this woman's request to keep her personal info private. However, the media has nothing else better to do--they would rather try to exploit this poor woman by searching here and

Actually, it's South Carolina that accepted the anonymous ticket redemption. The winner lives in NC, but the lottery is based in SC.
