It's just past 3PM on Monday and the estimate was bumped up to $586 million. It could still increase substantially, and I'm sure they're being conservative because sales are so much lower than past sales for jackpots in this range, but I'm not expecting anything over 650 by Tuesday night. If it does roll, maybe sales will finally be as big as in the past, and it could reach 900 or more for Friday night. The only odds that matter are the odds of having a jackpot winning ticket on Tuesday and that depends on the sales. I wouldn't say it's a lack of confidence but rather a lack of support. They were wrong in their projections (scary since they are supposed to be conservative) and actually had a shortage of funding. I suppose this should be expected given it is only the first run in the matrix, but a shortage has occurred several times already. On top of being short in funding, the annuity factor decreased from 1.869 to 1.848. This means last night's advertised $344 million jackpot was only worth $339.1 million.

Unfortunately, the MegaMillions managers have changed their game: MegaMillions Has Changed: The odds of winning a jackpot changed from 1 in 176 million, to 1 in 259 million. It's now almost impossible to win. They increased the odds by 50% so it would be harder to win and the jackpots would increase. I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to ignore this game until it goes to $700 Million. That's what the managers wanted anyway. Then I'll play 10 bucks.

This shouldn't even be a question. And the lottery really needs to stop pretending that it's for the sake of transparency. Is anyone really buying that? Both PB and MM changed their structure to pretty much guarantee MUCH larger jackpots. The more money that is involved the crazier people get. I Love this but only selfishly. I've deliberately gone out of my way to purchase tickets in anonymous Lottery States because if i win i want NO ONE to know. I love this move but its a slippery slope. If i win, i want to remain anonymous. If you win, you want to remain anonymous, fair. But what happens when it all goes 'dark' and no one really knows anyone who wins??? Not good. Its tricky and i'm not sure what the solution is. Maybe it could be set up where if the win is a multi-state pot (PB/MM)
