$297 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised again before tonight's drawing
Actually, MM sales seem to have responded nicely since the new matrix. Their ploy with the pumped up annuity value seems to have worked, players seem to have bit into it hook, line and sinker. Sales have been boosted by the pumped up annuity value.
Below graph compares current run in blue (with projections) compared to preceding $189M run (P) on old matrix ending 10/1/13 in orange:
But compared to a year ago with the record $656M run (R) , yes, way down. But that was a different time w

Are there any advantages to NOT being anonymous?
If Illinois allowed anonymous claims, you could rest assured that only the corrupt politicians and their cronies would be the winners of the state jackpots. If Iowa would have allowed anonymous claim, then that Hot Lotto jackpot would have been claimed instead of being denied when the guy's backstory sounded fishy. There are ways to handle claiming a prize non anonymously, but the end result is yes, the person's life will change. One could claim prize wearing disguise so that even though your n

Powerball winner dies penniless, 12 years after winning $27 million
A million bucks worth of luxary cars parked curbside at his $1.6 million mansion. What a clown.
Ya know, $27 million is alot of money, but, especially if that's a pre-tax figure, isn't ALOT OF MONEY, if you catch my drift.
And he didn't have the wherewithal to set up a trust for his daughter. That's unconscionable.
Between this story and the ones of unclaimed million-dollar jackpots, it's enough to scream to the Lotto gods... Let me win, I'd do this right!

How much would you wager on A 1 Billion dollar Jackpot at one Time ?
The cost of a winning ticket.
If PB and MM both offered $1 billion jackpots, MM players would have to spend, on average, $259 million to produce each $1 billion winner. PB players would have to spend $350 million.
I'd probably spring for 5 of the MM tickets and 2 or 3 of the PB tickets, but I'd pay attention to the size of the jump that leads to the $1 billion jackpot. If sales are high enough that there's a very good chance of mutliple winners I'd figure I'm only playing for $500 million.

$257 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot expands
I don't understand the thought-process by some on here that the current MM jackpot---or even I'm assuming the jackpots of a week or two ago---isn't worth tossing a buck (or two with MP) into the hat because of the new odds matrix.
I don't like the change-of-odds either. And I'm not advocating blowing 20 bucks a draw chasing this thing. But risking 1-2 dollars--or even a couple more-- for $89 mil and change after taxes with current JP? That's not really a 'risk', not really a 'gamble'. It puts

$205 MILLION: Promise of big jackpots met by new Mega Millions
My personal opinion is that the new format will not produce astronomical jackpots because there are only 15 Mega balls. The very first draw under the new format there were 3 players with a 5 number win and it appeared that they only sold 28 million tickets. That would have been a 1 in 5 chance that one of them could have had the correct Mega ball. The next several draws produced only 1 player with 5 numbers with sales averaging only about 30 million. The last draw had two players with 5 numbers

The New Mega Millions Game - So Do You Like It Or Not?
There is enough of a MM and PB large jackpot history to almost predict when the ticket buying frenzy will start and sales are usually less than $60 million when the jackpot is under $200 million. In the past it took $300 million jackpots to produce $100 million in sales.
And let's not forget the jackpot value changed when they changed the game. For a fair comparison, it must be cash value and that site uses the annuity value. Megaplier sales are about 45% higher and will be interesting to see

Let's just say the 75 number MM never gets hit...
These monstrous jackpots may seem appealing to many- but in all sincerity, how much does one Need to survive, be self sufficient, help family and friends and not end up broke? It seems the more we read of persons winning a large jackpot- the sooner we hear sad stories of persons unable to control their spending habits and end up on the front page of LP.
Like Ridge- l play 1 line or 2.- the odds are astronomical to begin with so putting down $10 plus is insane. (imo).. unless one is willin
