Mega Millions in Trouble?
Just as it is with PB, sales for MM never generate enough cash to fully fund the jackpot until at least the 2nd drawing. The time around the early sales were apparently a bit lower, but that's while competing against a PB jackpot of $139 million. At the current $21 million for the annuity jackpot MM is in the same territory it's usually at after 2 rolls. Over the past few months the 3rd jackpot has been advertised at $21 to $25 million (not counting the anomalous roll after the record jackpot).

$325 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot rolls again
Unless sales fall well short of their estimates, another roll will absolutely shatter the previous record. The cash value of the previous record was a bit over $233 million. Based on the cash to annuity ratio for this jackpot it would take an advertised annuity value of just under $371 million to have a bigger cash value. If sales aren't any better than their first estimate, another roll can't possibly miss the 400 mark, and would almost certainly be 425. That would be a hair over $267.5 million

1 Billion Dollar Powerball Jackpot!
Unforunately the powerball rules make this an almost impossibility. Once a new record high is reached the jackpot will only increase by a set amount per each drawing. I am not sure of the exact numbers, butthe new record(for Powerball) is around $390 million and then a set increase of about $20 million each drawing with the breakage being divvied up among the second tier winners. This was done to appease the people that whinge and moan about there only being one big winner of a large jackpot, or

Amazing implementation of record highs.
I was just reading the FAQ's of various lotto websites thats speaks of powerball. When the jackpot reaches reaches record intervals, the officials implement something called the Match 5 Bonus prize pool. It's crazy; each rollover is an additional twenty five mil which is the max limit they will raise on the jackpot so the rest of the ticket sales go into this pool until someone wins the jp, then the pool is divided equally among all the 5+0 winners. Thats amazing. Now what I was thinking is t

The Connecticut Lottery Corp. says it set a record during the last fiscal year with $998.5 million in sales. The state received $283 million of that for its General fund, about $4.5 million more than expected. The Lottery says sales were up by 4.3 percent or $41.5 million over the 2007 fiscal year, and contributions to the state rose by 1.4 percent, or $4 million. Scratch ticket sales showed the largest gain, up $24 million from fiscal 2007.
