$173 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot increased

The multi-state Powerball lottery drawing took place last night without any jackpot winners, causing the new jackpot for Wednesday's drawing to grow to an estimated $173 million, with a cash option of $107.7 million.
Saturday night was the 9th consecutive drawing without a jackpot winner.

Lottery winner donates apartment complex to help families in crisis
Winner has given millions to charities since 2010
Randy Smith, a West Virginia multimillion-dollar lottery winner turned philanthropist, listened Friday to how his donation of an apartment complex is turning into a sustainable community housing program for families in crisis.

Retired Illinois couple share $656M lottery jackpot

A retired computer systems designer and his wife, a computer programmer, have claimed the final share of the March 30 $656 million Mega Millions lottery drawing.
Merle, 65, and Pat Butler, 62, claimed the jackpot at the Red Bud Village Hall in the small southern Illinois town of Red Bud. The winning ticket was sold at a nearby Motomart in the town of 6,000 people.

Illinois Mega Millions winner to come forward
The final winner of the record $656 million Mega Millions jackpot will accept a check for $218.6 million on Wednesday in the southern Illinois town of Red Bud where the winning ticket was purchased, the Illinois Lottery said Monday.

The holder of one of three winning tickets in last week's record $656 million Mega Millions drawing came forward Friday to claim a share, Kansas Lottery officials announced Friday afternoon.

Tara Ramirez doesn't know what she's going to do after claiming a $70 million Powerball jackpot.
But with an eight-figure nest egg, the Hartsdale woman can do just about anything she wants.

Firefighters donate lottery winnings to help colleague
A group of Albuquerque, New Mexico, firefighters who became Mega Millions winners this week said they're donating money to help save the life of one of their own.

A Rhode Island woman claimed the second Powerball jackpot in that state in recent months Tuesday but it fell to her attorney to pose alongside the oversized lottery check.
