New England states start new lottery game Thursday

For the first time ever, the six New England states will jointly run a multi-state lottery game, starting this week.
The new Lucky for Life regional draw game begins this Thursday, March 15 for the six following states: Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massechusetts, and Rhode Island. Ticket sales for the new game started Sunday.

As lottery fans have been discussing the revamped Powerball game, the United States's other huge multi-state game, Mega Millions, has been quietly and steadily increasing its jackpot.

2 W.Va. veterans pull off incredible Powerball win worth $14M
$14 million from multiple tickets with same numbers
Two Vietnam War Veterans from Weston, West Virginia, are millionaires after claiming an unusual Powerball prize involving multiple lottery tickets purchased with the same numbers.

Louise White, a vivacious 81-year-old of Newport, R.I., stepped forward today as the winner of $336.4 million, the third largest Powerball lottery in the history of the game.
I want to say that I'm very happy and I'm very proud. This will make my family very happy, she said. We are truly blessed. Thank you.

Mo. woman describes aftermath of lottery jackpot
When Sandra Hayes hit a $224 million Powerball jackpot with 12 of her co-workers, she didn't retire immediately.
Hayes was a social worker with the state of Missouri then, and she was a single mom of three who was twice divorced. Her income was less than $26,000 a year.

Mary Roberts of Boyce, Louisiana, became the Louisiana Lottery's first millionaire of 2012 when she claimed a $1 million Powerball prize from the Feb. 11 drawing at Lottery headquarters on Tuesday, accompanied by her husband, Mike.

The Powerball lottery that provided a lucky Rhode Island ticket holder $336.4 million could soon produce jackpots of $500 million or more.

$336 million Powerball ticket sold at R.I. supermarket

Rhode Island Lottery officials say the winning ticket in Saturday's $336.4 million Powerball jackpot was sold at a Stop Shop supermarket at 250 Bellevue Avenue in Newport.
The winning Powerball ticket was the only one that matched all five numbers plus the Powerball number Saturday to win what turned out to be the sixth-largest jackpot in US history the third-largest ever won by a single ticket.
