N.Y. couple wins $162M lottery jackpot - but owes $1M
A Long Island couple will step forward Thursday to claim a $162 million jackpot, but Suffolk County already has their hands in winners' pockets.
County officials say Richard and Mary Morrison owe $950,000 stemming from an audit of a homeless shelter they ran for 20 years. The audit showed the couple doled out bonuses to themselves, billed the county for benefits they later pocketed and bought big-screen televisions.

Powerball helps Florida Lottery cover losses
Since the multi-state lottery game Powerball arrived in Florida a year ago, people have bought more than $430 million in tickets. But even that couldn't stop overall lottery revenue in 2009 from dropping 3 percent compared with the year before.
Lottery sales, which are usually immune from recessions, have taken a hit during the downturn. Sales have plummeted nearly $300 million since the lottery's high-water mark in 2008. It's the first significant drop since 1995.

N.Y. Mega Millions lottery winners claim prize
Winning couple, on the brink of poverty, will be identified later this week
The winners of the $162 million Mega Millions jackpot have been identified and will meet the public in a news conference later this week, lottery officials said Monday.
The ticket was handed in by the winners, who were accompanied by their attorney, at a New York Lottery office in upstate Fishkill about 11:30 a.m., lottery spokeswoman Jennifer Givner said. Officials have validated the ticket, she said.

Arkansas Lottery gets its first Powerball jackpot winner
Just two months after the first Powerball ticket was sold in Arkansas, the state has produced its first jackpot winner.
The 29-year, 30-installment annuity jackpot was $25 million, which can also be claimed as a $12,153,621 million cash option. The net payout after the automatic 25% federal tax withholdings for the cash option would be $9,115,216. Arkansas does not withhold state tax from lottery prize payouts.

Mega Millions coming to North Dakota
The North Dakota Lottery Division is launching a new game in January.
The Mega Millions multi-state lottery game will be added to the selection of games already being played in North Dakota.
North Dakota Lottery Division Director Randy Miller says it's in the state's best interest to add the game to its current product mix. He's expects the state lottery division will see a $2 million increase in total sales by adding the Mega Millions to the lineup.

Kentucky lottery officials have identified the store that sold the state's largest Powerball jackpot winning ticket over the weekend, but no one has claimed the prize as of Monday morning.
ProTravel Marathon, located at 102 Success Drive in Georgetown, sold the only winning jackpot ticket for Saturday's drawing, Kentucky's first since December 2007, when a Bullitt County man claimed a $33.6 million prize.

Md. man claims $250K prize 1 day before deadline
An Elkton, Maryland, man claimed a $250,000 Mega Millions prize with one day left before he missed the deadline.
The 52-year-old man, whose name wasn't released by Maryland Lottery officials last week, was preparing to pay his truck insurance Dec. 18 when he happened upon the ticket that was bought in June.

Kentucky lottery officials say there was a single $128.6 million winning Powerball ticket sold in Georgetown, 65 miles east of Louisville, making it the largest jackpot won in the history of the Kentucky lottery.
