Jamaican lottery scam investigation leads to Mississippi
A Jamaican national was arrested in Gulfport, Mississippi, Monday for his role in an alleged Jamaican lottery scam.

UK shopkeeper guilty of lottery fraud
A shopkeeper from Gravesend, a town in northwest Kent, England, has been found guilty of trying to con a lottery syndicate [pool] out of nearly 80,000 (US$120,000) in winnings.
Imran Pervais, 26, misled the winning group into thinking they had won 10 when in fact they had scooped 79,887 after matching five balls and the bonus ball.
He was convicted by a jury at Maidstone crown court of fraud by false representation following a two-day trial and he will be sentenced at a later date.

Lottery winner indicted on 31 counts
Days after a Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, woman sought permission to subpoena Frederick Rick McMenimen's bank records, the former Exeter financial adviser sought Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, court records show.

Mich. lottery winner who kept collecting welfare found dead
A Lincoln Park, Michigan, woman who won $1 million in the Michigan Lottery and was later convicted for still collecting state welfare died Saturday from an apparent drug overdose.

Online poker sites settle U.S. lawsuit for $731 million
The Department of Justice announced a $731 million settlement Tuesday with online poker companies PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker to resolve bank fraud and money laundering allegations.
Full Tilt also resolved allegations that it operated a Ponzi scheme, failing to maintain sufficient funds on deposit for players to withdraw. Prosecutors said last year that Full Tilt had used more than $400 million worth of player funds to pay board members and other owners since 2007.

Michigan lottery winner convicted of welfare fraud gets probation
The Lincoln Park, Michigan, woman who made national headlines for continuing to accept food stamp benefits after winning $1 million on a Michigan Lottery game show was sentenced today in Wayne County Circuit Court to nine months of probation.

A man who won nearly 5 million (US$7.8 million) in the UK National Lottery, but fraudulently claimed about 13,000 (US$20,200) in benefits, has been jailed for nine months.

Minn. store clerk accused of "micro-scratching" lottery tickets
What began as a complaint from a lottery customer about the loss of $15 led to an undercover operation and eventually the arrest of a store clerk for lottery fraud.
A man told the Minnesota State Lottery he'd bought a scratch ticket at the Casablanca Market in Hopkins. He scratched it and found he'd won $15.

Two big time lottery winners are facing arraignment on fraud charges Thursday after the state auditor found that they collected welfare benefits during the same period that they won hundreds of thousands of dollars from the lottery.
