Woman arrested for trying to fake jackpot winning lottery ticket
Note to anyone thinking of gaming the state lottery: it never works.
An Elgin, Illinois, woman tried to cash in on the record $656 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot with a ticket she bought online eight minutes after the winning numbers were drawn, officials said today.
Leandria Williams, 28, was initially charged with wire fraud last week for falsifying documents. She has now been charged with attempted theft and forgery, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.

Lottery winner who kept cashing welfare checks charged with fraud
A Michigan lottery winner was charged with fraud Tuesday for collecting food stamps and public health insurance despite pocketing a $735,000 jackpot.

7 guilty in $2M lottery fraud
Seven people have pleaded guilty in a lottery telemarketing fraud that U.S. prosecutors say bilked mostly elderly victims out of an estimated $2 million.

Maryland liquor store owner charged in lottery scam
The owner of a liquor store in North Point, Maryland, was arrested and charged with grand theft, petty theft, and fraud after she was caught stealing an undercover agent's winning lottery ticket worth $10,000.
Ross Liquors, located in the Merritt North Shopping Center, had its Maryland Lottery license revoked following the undercover operation. The theft occured on last week, on March 8th.

Texas man alters lottery ticket, tries to claim prize

A Houston man is accused of altering a lottery ticket last year to claim the cash prize, the Harris County District Attorney's Office said.
Allen Hudaifa, 57, was charged on Friday with claiming a lottery prize by fraud a second-degree felony, officials said.
In February 2010, Hudaifa tried to redeem a scratch-off lottery ticket that would have netted him $1,000 a week for 20 years.

Lottery scam victims finally get $12.5M jackpot
They had to wait seven years, but seven Ontario men each collected checks for more than $2 million Thursday, their share of a lottery win originally awarded to a woman now facing fraud charges.
