East Greenbush woman to serve six months of weekends in jail despite pleas for leniency
An East Greenbush woman who admitted stealing a $25,000 winning lottery ticket was sentenced Thursday to six months of weekends in jail, despite pleas from her attorney that the court show some mercy and drop the jail time.
Kelly Clifford, 21, appeared before Judge Robert Jacon for sentencing last week, when her lawyer, John Kelleher, asked for compassion for his client.

Worker accused of stealing winning Oregon lottery ticket
An investigation by Oregon State Police Lottery Security Section detectives has led to the arrest of a Springfield man who allegedly stole a winning $50,000 scratch-it ticket from the victim at a Springfield restaurant.
The suspect was arrested when he came to lottery headquarters to claim the $50,000 prize.

A Maryville, Tennessee, couple is out on bond after being accused of stealing thousands of lottery tickets.
Linda Dillow, 59, and Charles Dillow, 50, are accused of stealing from the Easy Way Exxon in Maryville, where both worked.
The owner noticed a discrepancy on the books with regard to the number of lottery tickets that had left the story. The owner watched the store's surveillance video to get a better idea of what was going on.

Lottery fraudster spared prison
A Belfast woman who falsely claimed more than 40,000 (US$75,000) in benefits after she had won nearly 60,000 (US$110,000) playing the UK National Lottery has been spared jail.
In June 2000, Leanne Thompson, 29, from Bloomfield Parade, scooped 58,518, but failed to declare her change of circumstances to the benefits agencies.

Oregon waitress gets four years in lottery heist
A 33-year-old Beaverton, Oregon, waitress was sentenced to four years in prison today for robbing a lottery outlet and hitting the clerk over the head with a whiskey bottle.
Angela Marie Kotoff pleaded guilty to second-degree robbery. As part of a plea deal, the case was removed from Measure 11 sentencing and charges of second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon were dropped.
