Is the lottery shortchanging schools?
According to the North American Assoc. of State and Provincial Lotteries, 42 states and the District of Columbia run lotteries, and more than half claim the games boost funding for education. But CBS News chief investigative correspondent Armen Keteyian found that lotteries aren't exactly providing a windfall for schools.

Florida Gov. suggests selling the lottery
Selling the state's lottery and some of its highways, such as Alligator Alley, to private companies may help solve Florida's financial dilemma, Gov. Charlie Crist said Tuesday.
Crist said he wants lottery and transportation officials to examine the potential of going private but cautioned that doesn't mean he's sold on the idea.

In the fall of 2006, David Lee Edwards and his wife, Shawna, decorated their front door for Halloween. Down on his luck, Florida man wins $33M lottery jackpot
West Palm Beach resident Ezequiel Perez has had his share of tragedy in recent weeks. His father died early Monday morning in Cuba. His home was heavily damaged by a fire earlier this month.
On Saturday night, he got some good news.

A burly Orange County, Florida, tree trimmer won $10,000 last month and some are saying it may have cost him his life.
Employees found their crew boss dead on the floor with empty pockets Monday morning at Gator Tree Experts near West Fairbanks Avenue.

Employees hit Florida Lottery raffle jackpot
A group of lucky workers from a distributor of electronic components will celebrate Independence Day much differently next year.
Sandra Pope-Guerriero of Pinellas Park, who works at Cross Components Inc. claimed a $1 million prize for herself and seven coworkers who pitched in to buy 16 Florida Lottery Firecracker tickets.
Pope-Guerriero bought the winning ticket at Rockwell's Pub Liquors on Starkey Road, one of two lottery retailers in the same shopping plaza that sold winning tickets.

Florida Lottery won't pay $500,000 winner, called 'misprint'
A Florida couple says they have a winning lottery ticket and they want their money, but the the Florida Lottery Commission isn't paying.
Ocala resident Joe Curcio thought he hit the jackpot on a scratch-off ticket that shows a prize of $500,000.
When he tried to claim his prize he received nothing at the lottery office.
Curcio said he bought a legitimate lottery ticket at the Turnpike rest area at Fort Drum.
The state said the ticket had a misprint on it.
