Suspended CT lottery game had too many winners
The Connecticut Lottery and state Department of Consumer Protection shut down the 5 Card Cash game after noticing there were more winners than the game's parameters should have allowed, and determining that some lottery agents were manipulating machines to print more winning tickets and fewer losers.
The investigation is ongoing, Consumer Protection Commissioner Jonathan Harris said Friday afternoon, but lottery retailers found to have cheated could face criminal charges.

The Connecticut Lottery has halted the sales and payouts for its 5 Card Cash game after it learned some retailers might have been cheating the system.
According to Connecticut Lottery officials, some retailers might have intentionally manipulated the reporting mechanism on the lottery terminals for their own personal gain. Officials did not say which retailers or exactly how the terminals were being manipulated.

Florida lawmakers seek to automate lottery ticket sales
The Florida Lottery and education in the state go hand in hand, with the department contributing more than $28 billion to education trust funds since 1988. Lawmakers think they can get that number to up with a bill that would make it easier for consumers to buy a ticket.
The idea for automated lottery terminals comes from a state study where it has been noted for two years in a row that ticket automation could increase revenues.

California Lottery computer glitch shuts down terminals
It's an unlucky day for the California Lottery.
A computer glitch on Monday shut down lottery terminals around the state, preventing players from getting numbers for Powerball and other games. Only the scratch-off tickets were still being sold.
Lottery spokesman Alex Traverso says there was a loss of signal that prevented the terminals from connecting to the system that generates the numbers.

Oklahoma Lottery warns about Powerball scam spreading through Facebook
The Oklahoma Lottery Commission is warning the public of a new scam that is affecting Facebook users nationwide.
The Oklahoma Lottery says there is a post circulating on Facebook that allows users to click on a link taking them to a website claiming the Powerball is giving away $1 million jackpot instantly.
The website address reportedly includes various misspellings of Powerball, including Powerbooll and Pawerball.

The outrageous Hot Lotto rigging scandal that started in Iowa is now spreading into other states including Texas. Officials are taking a second look at a $570,000 winning multi-state lottery ticket purchased a decade ago in Colorado by a Central Texas judge.

Bill would allow Florida Lottery tickets to be sold online
Capitalizing on a recent change in federal law, legislation has been filed to allow the Florida Lottery to sell tickets online.
The bill, SB 270 by Sen. Gwen Margolis (D-Miami Beach), is aimed at broadening the Lottery's revenue base to include out-of-state customers and occasional players who might be enticed to play more frequently if online tickets were an option.
