South Carolina lottery winner says she'll use the money to adopt her grandchildren
A South Carolina grandma has big plans for her jackpot lottery prize.
Jennifer Flannery was on her way to work and in a bad mood when she stopped at a gas station in Spartanburg and bought a Queen of Hearts scratch-off lottery ticket for $10, according to a release from the South Carolina Education Lottery.
She scratched the ticket when she got to work and then told her boss she had to leave when she saw she won $250,000, the release says.

Massachusetts woman wins her second $1M lottery prize
About a decade after Linda Sweeney won a $1 million through the Massachusetts Lottery, the Dorchester resident celebrated another victory last week.

Thief yanks entire lottery ticket displays from two California businesses

A lightning quick lottery ticket thief tried his luck twice, yanking California Lottery Scratchers display cases from counters in bold heists that were caught on camera at two San Gabriel Valley businesses.
The crimes were reported Jan. 22 at Smoke Rings 4 and Daily Donut in San Dimas. Store security video shows the man, dressed in athletic wear, grab the Scratchers displays in a bear hug before sprinting away, leaving a flurry of lottery tickets in his wake.

Massachusetts man sues 2 women, claiming they cheated him out of $4 million lottery prize
A Massachusetts man says two women cheated him out of $4 million in lottery winnings by taking advantage of his inability to read or speak English.
The man, Joao Luis DaPonte, said in a civil complaint filed earlier this month in Bristol Superior Court that when he initially scratched the Lottery ticket he purchased at Cafe Sao Paulo on Bolton Street in New Bedford on Nov. 23, he believed he had won $4,000 since the ticket said $4MIL below the number 26.

Mississippi men tried cashing in lottery ticket after gluing on the winning numbers, officials say
Two Mississippi men are in custody after being accused of trying to claim a $100,000 lottery prize with a fake scratch-off lottery ticket.
Mississippi Lottery Corp. spokeswoman Meg Annison said the two individuals came to the lottery headquarters in Flowood Monday morning seeking to claim the prize.

Malek Dabwan of Goldsboro got a call from lottery officials telling him he had won a prize, but he was skeptical at first, according to the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Cashier's mix-up ends in lottery jackpot win for man on his first visit to NC
A man on his first trip to North Carolina ended up with a $100,000 souvenir.
It was all thanks to a cashier who made a mistake, the N.C. Education Lottery said Monday in a news release.
Melvin Rose got the jackpot prize after he came from Tennessee to work on a painting and restoration project, according to the news release.

Nearly $9 million of Mississippi Lottery tickets sold in first 6 days
The Mississippi Lottery sold nearly $9 million in tickets during its first six days of operation.
About $3.8 million of the money was awarded in prizes, and nearly $2 million of it will go into the state budget to help pay for roads and bridges.
The Mississippi Lottery Corporation started selling tickets Nov. 25, and it announced the initial sales figures in a news release Wednesday.

Scores of Mississippi residents made their way to convenience stores as early as 5 a.m. Monday as the state's first lottery tickets went on sale in over 1,000 locations.
