Mega Millions goes on sale in South Dakota May 16
South Dakota Lottery officials are adding Mega Millions to the state's lineup of lotto games, beginning May 16.
The first Mega Millions drawing in which South Dakota will participate is Tuesday, May 18.
The South Dakota Lottery Commission in late March unanimously approved adding the game. The legislative Rules Review Committee Tuesday approved the administrative rules.

Multi-state lottery jackpots offer multiple $100M+ chances
This weekend the two biggest USA multi-state lottery games remained unbeaten, with their jackpots continuing to rise.

$250,000 Va. lottery ticket expires Monday
The clock is ticking on a Mega Millions ticket worth a quarter-of-a-million dollars.
The ticket was purchased last October in Chesterfield, Virginia, and no one has come forward to claim the prize. If the ticket is not redeemed by 5 p.m. Monday, it will expire.
The $250,000 ticket was bought at a gas station across from the Chesterfield County Courthouse on Oct. 13. The buyer matched the first five numbers to win the regional game's second-biggest payout.

S.D. Lottery considers adding Mega Millions
The South Dakota Lottery Commission is preparing to add another lotto game.
The commissioners will hold a rules hearing on Friday to decide whether South Dakota should join 37 other states that offer Mega Millions, billed as America's biggest jackpot game.
South Dakota Lottery Director Norman Lingle declined a request for an interview Monday, according to lottery spokeswoman Kelly Thompson.

Man retrieves $250K lottery ticket from trash
A Maryland man threw away a $250,000 Mega Millions ticket before realizing his mistake and finding it after a 90-minute search.
The 49-year-old man, whose name wasn't released by Maryland Lottery officials, bought several tickets for the March 9 drawing. After checking them and thinking none was a winner, he threw them out.
A Maryland Lottery employee told the winner's brother that a $250,000 winning ticket had been sold at the store Barnabas Liquors in Temple Hills.

Calif. man claims $134M Mega Millions lottery jackpot
The multimillion-dollar man has been found.
California Lottery officials Tuesday announced the name of a man, believed to be a Long Beach resident, who has won the $134 million Mega Millions jackpot.
The winner has been identified as John Dalkos. Officials said Dalkos showed up at the Santa Ana District office on Monday afternoon to claim his massive prize. Dalkos declined to be interviewed, they said.

S.C. Lottery sales up by 3 percent; Powerball sales down
It's early yet, but the multi-state lottery game Mega Millions has not sent lottery ticket sales shooting through the roof in South Carolina.
Overall, sales are up about 3 percent. But sales for the state's other multi-state game Powerball are down.
For roughly its first month of operation in South Carolina, the Mega Millions jackpot game had sales of $2.3 million, according to state lottery figures, as South Carolinians got their first crack at a second, high-sweepstakes game.
