$521 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised due to surging sales

A rush of ticket sales for the half-billion-dollar Mega Millions jackpot has prompted lottery officials to revise their estimate for the Friday night drawing to $521 million.
The all-important lump-sum cash value is now estimated to be a staggering $317.2 million.
Friday's drawing will be the 24th since Mega Millions had a winner. The current jackpot run-up started on Jan. 9 as a $40 million grand prize.

Gas station clerk finds lottery ticket worth $1 million, returns to owner
A Lincoln County, Kansas, man is $1 million richer, thanks to a Salina gas station employee. The lottery winner's brother accidentally dropped the winning ticket at a gas station over the weekend, before the numbers were checked.

Infamous lottery scammer says US computerized lottery drawings remain fatally flawed
Eddie Tipton warned them.
As the head of IT at the Multi-State Lottery Association, Tipton pulled aside his boss and told him the computer software that randomly selected the winning numbers for million-dollar games in as many as 17 states had a terrible flaw.

Judge rules $560M Powerball lottery winner can stay anonymous
A judge ruled Monday that a New Hampshire woman who won a Powerball jackpot worth nearly $560 million can keep her identity private, but not her hometown.
Judge Charles Temple noted that the case's resolution rested on application of the state's Right-to-Know law, which governs access to public records for the woman. She was identified as Jane Doe in a lawsuit against the New Hampshire Lottery Commission.
