Astute clerk steps in to save woman throwing out ticket
An aware store clerk saved an Oakland County, Michigan, woman from throwing away a $100,000 winning lottery game ticket.
Melissa Dean said she bought two Triple Your Luck tickets at the Smokers Express on West Pontiac Trail in Novi. She won $15 on one of the tickets, but she didn't think the other ticket was a winner, according to a news release from the Michigan Lottery.

Scratch-off tickets push Florida Lottery to record sales
Floridians with dreams of instant payoffs are generating record scratch for the Florida Lottery.
Lottery revenues for the fiscal year ending June 30 are up $180 million over last year, reaching a record $5.58 billion, with two-thirds of that money via scratch-offs.
The state sold $3.7 billion in scratch-off tickets this year, compared with $3.4 billion in 2013-14. That more than offset a drop of about $120 million in Powerball, Florida Lotto and other games.

9/11 hero wins $5 million NY Lottery prize
A New York City firefighter forced to retire due to Ground Zero ailments won a $5 million jackpot with a New York Lottery scratch-off ticket.
Carmelo Mercado, of Harriman in Orange County, New York, hit paydirt with a $20 Cash X 100 ticket, sources said.
Mercado, 63, a retired member of FDNY Battalion 49 in Astoria, said he had initially purchased one ticket, but then decided on a whim to purchase another which won.

An Elgin, Illinois, man has won a $4 million lottery prize after purchasing a ticket from Lundeen's Liquors in St. Charles.
Michael Stetar, 54, has been a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for the past 17 years. He buys a lottery ticket weekly and won big after trying his luck on a new game.
He was on a break when he went into Lundeen's Liquors, 610 East Main St. in St. Charles, to get a snack and saw the Golden Casino ticket.

A man in southwestern Connecticut who mistakenly bought the wrong lottery ticket is $30,000 wealthier.
Bob Sabo, of Easton, says he didn't want to wait in line to buy a lottery ticket at the Super Stop Shop in Fairfield, so he decided to buy a ticket from a lottery vending machine - something he had previously never done.
