$359 MILLION: Powerball jackpot heats up

As Winter approaches and temperatures cool throughout much of the United States, the multi-state Powerball lottery game is trying to keep things hot.
For the fourth time in 2016, a Powerball jackpot has exceeded $300 million and has entered into the top 25 US jackpots of all time.
The new high-water mark of $359 million for the current Powerball jackpot was achieved after no winning tickets were sold for Saturday night's $333.5 million grand prize.

$49M Texas Mega Millions jackpot claimed by trust

The $49 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot won in Texas this past October was claimed this week by a trust, effectively keeping the real winner anonymous.
The trust is humorously titled, It Will Buy Me a Boat Revocable Trust Dated November 16, 2016 . Garon R. Horton, an attorney from the Horton Law Firm in Rockwall, is the Trustee.
The winning Mega Millions numbers drawn on Oct. 11, 2016, were 36, 39, 42, 45, and 48, with Mega Ball number 3.

A Texas businessman charged in Iowa's lottery rigging investigation is scheduled to enter a new plea often a signal that a plea agreement has been reached with prosecutors.

Powerball jackpot winner pleads out in stalking case
A black sheep member of a prominent Marinette County, Wisconsin, family has opted for a plea deal on several felonies he piled up in the wake of winning a $31.4 million Powerball jackpot.
Douglas P. Miron, 50, pleaded no contest to amended counts late last month, just as he was scheduled to begin a complicated trial Nov. 1 on a raft of charges from burglary and stalking to reckless endangerment and perjury.

Minnesota man comes up with 2nd big lottery win
A Minnesota man has claimed his second major lottery prize in less than 17 months, hitting a Gopher 5 jackpot last week worth nearly $875,000.
Anthony Fusaro of Plymouth, Minnesota, won $1 million playing Mega Millions just last year.
It's just pure luck, the 46-year-old Fusaro said in a statement issued Monday by lottery officials. I've always believed it would happen again.
Fusaro won an $874,766 Gopher 5 jackpot in Friday's drawing. He claimed his Mega Millions prize in June 2015.

Something that many people would want to hear is, You've won the lottery! When the information comes from a scammer trying to steal your money, beware. It's no game.
With two months left before Christmas, thousands of these letters will likely be mailed. Retiree claims $7.5M Georgia Mega Millions prize
Christina Ford of Dallas, Georgia, came forward Tuesday as the winner of Georgia's unclaimed $7,500,000 Mega Millions prize. She was one of two winners to split a $15 million jackpot July 22.

Illinois couple claim $134 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot

The lottery has made our dreams come true!
That's what the Illinois winner and his wife exclaimed Tuesday when they claimed a $134 million jackpot from the multi-state Mega Millions lottery game.
The winning couple, who claimed the prize in the name of the Elaine Francis Trust, beat the 1-in-259 million odds with a Quick Pick ticket in the Friday, September 16 Mega Millions drawing.

FBI warns of Mega Millions lottery fraud
The FBI's Atlanta office is warning of a scam involving the Mega Millions Lottery that uses the agency's name, as well as the name of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
People who are contacted receive very convincing fake letters that name the above agencies, and the recipients are told that they are lottery winners, FBI spokesman Stephen Emmett said.
