California man who stole roommate's $10 million lottery ticket received 8-month jail sentence
A 36-year-old Vacaville, California, man who police say stole his roommate's lottery ticket worth $10 million in late 2018 struck a plea deal earlier this year and was sentenced to eight months in Solano County Jail.
Court and Solano County Jail records on Monday indicated that Adul Saosongyang had been relegated to a local commitment under the state Penal Code, but, in a separate document, also indicated he pleaded no contest to attempted grand theft.

Stephanie Harvell's luck seemed to have dried up before she bought a scratch-off lottery ticket in early 2016. She and her husband had recently lost a car, and that same morning, they had received an eviction notice from their home in Bay City, Mich. Then, she scraped away at that ticket and realized she had won $500,000.

UK Lottery officials have refused to pay out a 4 million (US$5.2 million) jackpot to two players who they suspect had purchased the winning ticket with a stolen debit card.

Canadian lottery scammers fined $4.6 million
A father and his daughter were each fined $2.3 million for their roles in an insider lottery scam.
Jun-Chul Chung, 68, and his daughter, Kathleen Chung, 36, were handed the hefty fines last week by Justice Douglas Gray.
Chung was convicted of stealing a $12.5 million Super 7 ticket from a 2003 drawing, while his daughter falsely claimed the winnings and was convicted of possession of stolen property and defrauding the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.

Woman steals credit cards, buys winning lottery ticket, gets arrested
A 33-year-old Canadian woman hit it big in the lottery, but ended up on the losing end when the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary charged her with theft of a credit card used to purchase the winning ticket.
