Latest in string of lottery ticket thefts
The boarded up windows at John Patel's convenience store hide the damage within.
These people, I don't know what to think about them, Patel said of the people who set his business on fire. They're mentally sick, I think. Why they did the fire, I don't understand.
Early Monday morning, two men broke into Patel's store on Dean Street in Rome, Georgia, stole at least 30 rolls of scratch off lottery tickets, then set a fire in an attempt to cov

I scratched it off and I saw that I won, Oliker, 68, recalled yesterday as he claimed his million-dollar prize at the New York Lottery's regional office in Fishkill. I was in shock. I'm still in shock.
Oliker a

The Vermont Lottery ended its budget year with $1 million in unclaimed prizes for winning scratch-off tickets, a $400,000 jump over the amount of prize money that players failed to collect the previous year.
The extra money went to the state's Education Fund.
Why would people fail to collect their winnings?
That is a good question, said Alan Yandow, executive director of the Vermont Lottery Commission. People have the opportunity to scratch the instant ticket right away, he said.
