Just let me behind the counter so I can run my own dang numbers. I know what

I want and how I want them. I don't like giving lessons on what superstraight is or how

to make a $5 ticket straight. If you can't count - think - perform then stay away from

the machine. If I go once to a place where they do not know what they're doing I do

not go back. Time is money - get them done right and get them done quick...I don' t

have time for a. 50 boxed mistake when I wanted $5 straight. Of course the DIY

machines are available but those are junk and SLOW. A great clerk who doesn't have

to ask questions and makes no mistakes is worth his/her weight in gold.

I'm not quite sure I agree dr, 300 lbs. of GOLD is valued at $472,800.

What's a superstraight?

I'd rather have them ask questions than print out the wrong ticket which can't be cancelled. But I always do them the courtesy of filling out a play slip so I seldom have a problem.

Sooooo true.....Some do not realize how blessed they are to even have a job, but at least they are working. My line of work involves applications that have questions asking if folks are on public assistance, and below this question is an employment section that has the following questions: 1. Are you employed, if so, part time or full time. 2. Retired 3. Unavailable for work? 4 Are you unemployed?. If so , are you looking for work or NOT looking for work. Filling out play slips isn't a courtesy if you are a system player, it's a necessity.

When I traveled to Michigan to play BigGame before it came to Ohio as MegaMillions, I got my tickets at a truck stop that only took verbal orders of lottery tickets that were QPs, any custom orders had to be made with play slips and a sign was posted stating that policy.

* you don't need to buy every combination, just the winning ones *

Filling out the playslips is the best way to avoid clerk mistakes. If there is a mistake, then that's on you!!!

When playing the lottery the thing that should matter the most is: Are you winning more than you spend?

Dopey clerks can be annoying and aggravating.

But the ones who try to rip you off and then play dumb when you catch them are intolerable.

It makes you wonder how often they get away with it.

But states like Tennessee couldn't care less how many naive players are being ripped off as long as their bottom line isn't affected.

NJ just legalized online gaming. The State Lottery will not be far behind in announcing its online presence. Already some states allows players to pick their numbers online. Very soon it will be here.

That happenned to me once! At first I was livid.

Really laid into him. But we made up. Now if I ask he lets me use the machine.

I had to forgive him. There are no other late night stores I can go to in a pinch.

Good thing he is fast. If I get to the window and he sees me, he gets up right away! I also dont like to be standing at the machine waiting. Its like another poster said. Time is money! He is professional, and meticulous when not trying to perform a five finger discount on my promotional free plays. Maybe I could have reported him, but then they might have just replaced him with someone worse.

The only problem is that the store was robbed, so now late night they lock the door, so now I am the one standing alone in the dark waiting to robbed.

Also sucks when its raining and there is a long line of tabaco addicts, beer junkies and dutchmaster lovers and I cant cut the line and use the lottery machine myself because the door is locked!!

Those self service machines suck because they dont give change. And sometimes, the store will not have the correct playslips.

Also you cant make a pair bet on a playsip which is annoying, because then I have to give a tutorial on where the FP/BP button is.

I am a problem gamer and I have excluded myself from most casinos. Now I find myself hanging out in our local store playing scratch offs all day. As such, I play so much, I am like the cops in that I get free coffee from the store.

I understand the frustration some of us may have with the clerks getting their bets wrong but if you consider what these people do and for how much, you would be either in awe or be very angry.

Heres some of the things they need to do for the little they get paid for:

1. Manage inventory, specially from the pilferers. They come on all shades and sizes from those who just walks out with the merchandise to those who gets 2 and pays for 1. The clerks are very vulnerable when they are doing lottery. So they maybe working on your numbers but also thinking about the guy who just walked in or out.

2. Manage the POS and make sure they don't get short at the end of the day. For the lottery it gets tricky as multiple orders are barked on them, purchases or redemptions, making change. Theres so many chances to make mistakes.

3. Maintain the facility. Sometimes this involves saying no to others on toilet use and getting racist remarks for that.

4. Constantly interact with customers of all types who are in all kinds of disposition. Most are friendly, decent and polite. Some not so much.

And for these they are paid for what? In my store's case not a lot, pittance, not even $10 an hour with no benefits, no health insurance, no social sec/medicare. ALL CASH. And then we wonder why our institutions are in trouble. Its because we have so many small businesses, some in business for decades who are not putting $$$ into the system.

Yet these people still have dreams. They like to get into college and apply for jobs their customers have. Sometimes they ask me what they could qualify for. If I could be honest with them, I would tell me them they can easily be managers anywhere.

Very interesting when you put the shoe on the other foot, and see it from their POV.

I will definately think differently when I go into another store again.

However keep in mind the Lottery should be the main concern as some of these stores are making a killing in lottery sales, So much so they have TWO machines. and sully is right many stores should and do have two clerks.

One to watch the pilferers and make the milk sales, and the other to take the barking lottery orders from those unintelligent enough to find a playslip.

I have had to go far and wide to get those things! One guy even yelled at me for taking so many. But honestly I was just trying to piss him off for being so dopey and just took all of them.
