Via alpha numerics the past degits of 2016 add up to #9. Nine is a completion number as ending moreover an ending era.
Add 2017 and it equals "10" in standard numerology after dropping the 0, mow it becomes a #1 it's numero uno ! Year, a Happy New Year, beginning a year of people more self aware and self promotion, not to mean in a egotistic or narcissistic way. But we can start to realize our true self & true identity.

So 2016 was the year to get rid of what you don't want (Fang Shway) And as nature & science abhors a vacuum, when space is created, we are given a chance to create energy for new happenings.
Our dynamic Universe is in constant change creating vibrations which manifest themselves daily in new musical notes, colors, and numbers - each with it's own measurable frequency Hz.
