Hi everyone, this is my first post on here. I hope you are lucky this week!

Something dawned on me last night. First of all let me add that in Florida there are 6 pair games available (Pick 2, Pick 3 FP, Pick 3 BP, Pick 4 FP, Pick 4 MP, Pick 4 BP). The difference that Pick 2 offers is supposed exclusivity of the balls and the ability to bet F or B number for $5 win per $1 ticket, BOX or 1-off.

I'm not saying 100% with certainty BUT...

I thought that I would close in and try for the $20/1000 bet on a single STR play. I tried several times. The deal is however, that the final two times I tried this, and after seeing the pari-mutuel nature of California's Daily 3, that the Florida lottery keeps a watch on big bets on Pick 2 of this kind. I used my spreadsheet and have many parameters for deduction and attempted the play. The exact thing happened to me twice in a row within a couple days apart. It was both like this I played $20 STR on 00 the game hit 01 and the following time I tried 66 and it hit 67 (the exact same pattern). It could be random I do know that, but if you see how California uses a numerical count on how many wins in their Daily 3, it makes perfect sense why they went for pari-mutuel on the Daily 3 when you never see such a low odds game played like that. So in other words I think Florida could be using a pre-recorded video of the balls, at least for PICK 2. Do you suppose that if you played a bet on Pick 3 for 20/10000 with accuracy that somehow the final digit would be moved one higher? Well , just recently the Florida Lotto had three employees resign, they might have been top positions as well. Maybe California realizes this and decided to just go pari-mutuel instead of having to scan their daily big plays. Yes I have won on 5/250 bets on the pair game, straight on pick 2 several times and straight on pick 3 once just on a $1 ticket though.

If you are in Florida you may want to watch all the Pair games including Pick 2 and play for $5 / 250 bets on potential doubles since the doubles on 6 different games come in at about 1 to 1.666 draws. Good luck I hope this helps and saves you money if you are trying to play as if there is no possibility that they have some aspects of the lower odds games rigged in case of a player such as myself attempting the biggies.

Florida uses ball drawings, so the chances that it could be rigged are incredibly small — you can witness the numbers being drawn. Plus the payouts on a Pick 2 game are the smallest of any lottery game drawn in Florida, so there would be much less incentive to rig a drawing.

Be thankful you play the lottery in a state with traditional ball drawings. Those who play in a state with computerized drawings always have to be wondering if everything is A-OK. Other guys like Eddie Tipton could be out there, and we would probably never know it until it's too late.

I have always wondered about this myself. I also believe that numbers are either drawn or pulled based on the amount of winners there are. If many played 777 they switch the numbers; after all this is a business and they're not trying to give away more than they're making. This is solely my own opinion

More likely to be one-off than hit. Basic statistics.

Much like matching 4 out of 5 on a jackpot game, which very frequently occurs. For example, PA Cash 5 (5/43) jackpot odds is 1 in 962,598 while 4 out of 5 odds is 1 in 5,066. Sure, matching 4 out of 5 seems close, but is actually ~190 times more difficult. Same idea with Keno. Sure 6 out of 7 seems close, but is far from it.

A $1K prize liability is nothing for a state lottery. Even for Pick-2, $1K is relatively small. In PA, Pick-2 regularly pays out around $5-10K in prizes.

As for waging $20, or even more, straight on a Pick-3 number, many do that and the lottery does payout. If you doubt it, check the winners list. It appears Florida may make that difficult, but it appears such information can be requested. In PA, which makes such information easily available, one can see many examples of multiple wagers on the same number in Pick-X games, including Pick-5 that pays $50K for $1, that were paid out.

Finally, as Todd points out, ball drawings tend to be more difficult to tamper with; abuse more easily detected.

I been playing the lottery for over 22 years and I know I don't have to think it's rigged or they know what numbers have been played before the drawings. The balls can be rigged with all this modern technology anything is possible.

Since you live in Austin it would be easy for you to go to 6th Street and watch a drawing.

Anything with human involvement can and will be manipulated but the occurrences that are ever detected would be a VERY small percent of the total number of draws that have ever taken place for a particular game. I would think that past posting (betting after the results) which happens in all forms of Gaming could occur more often than rigging the balls or devices in anyway. The state's lottery commission main purpose for existence to to maintain the integrity of the game. To the best of my knowledge all state's draws that do not use RNGs show or televise the actual draws, they may not be on a local TV station any longer but they do stream them. Here in Texas you can stand on the street and watch the draws LIVE in person through a glass window, I am sure other states have some type of set up as well. I strongly feel the Lottery has no need to manipulate the draws, they win once you make your bet with payouts 50% of chance taken and way worse as you go up jackpot payout type games, even becoming Pari-Mutuel to ensure the lottery has absolutely no liability in the payouts. It is surely more believable to me that one or more people can and have been involved in game fixing but the Lottery as a whole would not benefit from such actions. If their games were collectively believed to be fixed or tampered with in any way the betting public would stop betting due to the complete loss of the games credibility. Why play a game that you feel is not on the level unless you believe that you can calculate when the fix is in and then benefit from such information?

Todd, I'm quite sure you know about this... But what I want to know is why are there microchips inside the balls? For what purpose? If Pa. does it, how do we know other lotteries aren't doing it also. Also check out the slide show, to see how many pre-tests they do.

At 5 p.m. a minimum of six people — two drawing officials, two certified public accountants and two senior citizen witnesses — gather outside the secure room where the lottery keeps its machines and balls: like Nerf balls, but with microchips.

Before you play there are 2 choices to make. Low sum or high sum and consecutive pair or no consecutive pair. Choose correctly and you go from 120 combos down to 30. Not a bad starting point.

The only reason I could imagine that there would be any kind of chip inside a ball is to embed a unique code or serial number inside each ball, for identification purposes, to ensure that the ball has not been replaced by a fake that has different weight or size characteristics.

The description of lottery balls as being like a "Nerf" is strange. The only types I have ever seen are hard, heavy rubber balls and ping-pong balls. Seems to me that a Nerf ball would be too light weight, and the sponginess would create problems for drawing machines. So I think the article may be wrong on that one.

I found a site that tells what lottery balls are made of, and the size and weight specs of the balls.
