For your issue to have merit, you'd have to concede that every state that doesn't mandate a press conference be given is every bit as susceptible to fraud you think would occur as states with full anonymity. How does a first initial, surname and city carry any more weight at being authentic than a trust? A report saying that S Brown from Atlanta was the sole claimant of the $700 million powerball jackpot would have zero meaning. That information is meaningless in establishing non-fraudulent activity because not only is that name incredibly common, it's even more common in that location. So unless every claimant was something like V Jayasingh from Roseville Michigan, a partial identity is worthless too.

Every last syllable of your post is spot on.

I have known people who just love to go see automobile accidents and funerals of people they barely knew. I think people who want to peep into the lives of lottery winners have the same mentality.

What the lottery knows about the winner and what the lottery tells the public about the winner are completely different things. They never release the winner's address, phone number, or social security number, but I assume you don't think that means that they don't know what they are.

There are several states that don't allow winners to remain anonymous, but allow them to claim as a trust and release only the name pf the trust to the public. The point of creating a trust is to deal with finances and protect assets, and you can do that regardless of the state's policy on releasing information to the public. Shielding your identity is just a bonus that you get if a state that doesn't allow anonymity only releases the name of the trust.

Which part of me asking "What if the Iowa Lottery had allowed Crawford Shaw to anonymously claim that Hot Lotto Jackpot for Hexham Investments Trust." and "Would Tipton and his band of merry men still be rigging that game?" is confusing you?

The topic is based on the fallacy some states give lottery winners total anonymity. and I was pointing out what could happen if they did. And I asked "Isn't the point of creating a trust to protect the real winner(s) identity?".

In Tx, Gov Abbot signed legislation that allows a person winning a million or more can remain anonymous. The commissioners voted to change the official rules a couple weeks ago. Nice to see, although I wouldn't worry too much about it if I was a jackpot winner.

I guess that what confuses me is how an adult who's been around here as long as you have can be so completely out of touch with such simple reality that they'd be asking the questions you're asking.

The reality is that some states do give winners complete anonymity, but only from the public. I'm perfectly willing to believe that you don't understand what's being discussed and/or how anonymity works, but I'm pretty sure that just about everyone else does understand it. In case you don't even know how we got here, it started with you asking if people who owe child support or back taxes should be allowed to collect anonymously. To anyone who understands what collecting anonymously means it's a really stupid question because the lottery will know who they are and be able to withhold any moneys required by law. When the reality was pointed out you switched to the nonsense about Shaw, but that's just a different flavor of the same stupidity you offered the first time around.

So I'll ask again - what part of it confuses you?

Very good point. I would not worry about it though, if you are on LP, then you are probably a Conservative and a Trump Supporter. Pretty soon the "Ultra-Liberals" will declare lottery winners that support Trump, Neo-Nazi's and racists. (Why not, they seem to be alienating half the country, calling all TRUMP supporters racist.) Especially with Bezos and Podesta the Molester (with their lamestream media) controlling the NYT, Washington Compost and CNN. (Crooked News Network) So your winnings will by default be forfeited and given over to BLM and Antifa. Which really stands for Anti First Amendment.

Great Point. I would say publish the name, but the picture does not have to public. Or as a previous poster mentioned, appoint some large far reaching bodyguards to protection services, and make sure to get a permit and a Smith and Wesson.

I don't have a cart or a horse, but I got a whole bunch of time to talk about winning the lottery, and I thank God for it. I'll do the same, first thing, if I ever win it. Then I'll go down to Macon and buy some nice flowers and put them on the grave of Elizabeth Reed in the city cemetery there. I 'spect Haymaker knows what I'm talkin' about.

That's like saying your roof doesn't leaks when it's not raining. Which part of there are no buts with "complete anonymity" is confusing you?

Say it any goofy way you like but some states don't publish the names of jackpot prize winners and apparently the person starting this thread "hates" that some states publish names and hold press conferences.

Every state by law gives the winner's info to the IRS, courts and other state agencies so it's not about "letting" or not "letting" anything. If having names of jackpot prize winner published is a problem with for you, don't play lottery games in that state.
