People who scratch off tickets on the counter are annoying. That is an easy problem to fix... put up a sign prohibiting such and make them go outside.

I don't get it... convenience stores don't HAVE to sell lottery tickets. Why do they bother if they don't like it?

I see that also. I’m like in the animal kingdom: most animals take their wins (prey) to a secure hiding place. Eating your prey (scratching a winner) in clear view puts you in a greater position to be ambushed by other predators (customers, store clerks, etc.).

Its not their fault, but some people treat convenience stores as casinos. By all means, use a little tact. You don’t buy a bag of chips and eat it at the encounter. You don’t buy a case of beer and consume it right it front of everyone either.

Might be an industry standard because when the Ohio Lottery and the KY Lottery offered Keno it was in a select few locations like sports bars, service clubs, some gas stations and some restaurants. And each location had a big screen TV showing the drawings. But after a few months, every lottery terminal started selling Keno tickets. Sort of a rule of thumb for me is to go to the places with make shift Keno lounges where I can watch the drawings. The problem is even in some of those places the clerks aren't exactly Keno friendly and could care less about having only 4 minutes between drawings.

Lottery savvy clerks will point those people with stacks of tickets to the self check machines.

Being very rude and annoying is very true about some clerk and some players. Do you think it's because a store needs sell over $150 worth of lottery tickets an hour just to offset a clerk's wages and selling lottery tickets is not a priority?

YUP! I have written here on LP about Royal Farms (in Delaware & Maryland) having a specific lottery 'drawer' that only has $250 at the most to do payouts. I finally got them to cash a $250 ticket but it took stopping at 3 different stores.

Tried emailing both states and RF's. Got a response from RF's but that was because i emailed the wrong department and they seemed concerned and passed it to the correct department, but then nothing after that. Really sad the states just dont care.

Also people who buy a scratch off from the machine and then scratch them on the window of the machine, blocking other people from getting to it. "Hey, I just put a dollar in there so now it's my machine."

Others stick dollars in one by one instead of putting what they intend to spend all at once.

Some outlets aroubnd here have put signs up - "If you're going to play more than one Pick 3 or Pick 4 fill out play slips." Sad that they have to tell people that.

Those who run the lotteries love it when players look for consistency in something that's designed not to have any. So many systems, so many theories, so few jackpot winners.

There is one and only one 'proven' system, and that is to book the action. No matter the game, let the players pick their own losers.

If any clerk gives you s@*t about cashing tickets, they probably don't like gambling and are acting holier than thou. Chances are they're doing it with other players too. Now at this point you have 2 choices, keep going there or take your business elsewhere.

I'll go elsewhere in a heart beat. If I'm putting my money in your cash register every day, even if it's just for lottery tickets, I'm still as much a customer as anyone else that walks into your store. You want to give me lousy service, well guess what. You ain't the only store in town.

There's a liquor store here that advertises, if you cash a Pick 4 straight, they'll give you 30 free tickets. They will give free tickets for a Pick 3 straight too. Now which would you go to?

When playing the lottery the thing that should matter the most is: Are you winning more than you spend? Good Luck!!!

No, I don’t think it has anything to do with how much they have to sell. I don’t think the clerks really care about that. I do think it has to do with a couple factors. 1) it is more work for the clerks to run the lottery machine than it is the cash registers. 2) The Lottery takes more time and they can get a line of impatient people. 3) I used to routinely fill out a bet slip and make a purchase for 15 draws in advance so it wasn’t unusual for me to spend over a $100. I had more than one clerk comment about how much I spent and how they wish they had that money to spend. So maybe it can be irritating to see people “wasting” that much money. They never took into account I was buying 7 weeks of tickets at a time.

Maryland is very bad about responding to emails. You’re better off calling them at 410-230-8800 and talking to someone. Also, depending on where you are in Maryland the new system of being able to cash tickets at either Maryland Live or the MGM National Harbor casino (at the cashiers window) works well and they are bound to have more than $250 in their drawers.

I have to say the new machines they have now are much better than the old ones. The clerks don't have to keep sticking the play slips into the machine, turning them around, trying to find the sweet spot on the rollers where it will accept the slip.

Too bad they don't have a rule where you must use play slips. Getting stuck behind someone buying 40, 50, or even over 100 dollars worth of tickets with the clerk having to enter every number manually really sucks. Especially when it's getting close to the cut off time.

What a rude comment! People like that do not belong in the customer service business! Let the store manager know, and that a clerk's failure to STFU will result in you taking your business elsewhere.

I like clerks that admit they themselves are players. And cashiers....I was in line once and my total was the same as the person that was in front of me and the cashier said, "You know you have to play a Pick 4 now!"

This was when I lived in Las Vegas....there was a magazine store and a grocery store close to each other. I would buy baseball and football magazines and then give them to my father.. One time I had bought 4 magazines - 1980s, maybe $3.99 or $4.99 each and the girl working in the store said, "You spend a lot on magazines."

A few minutes later we were both in the grocery store......she had a couple of candy bars and a soda....and asked the change girl for $20 in quarters to play the slots.
