Anyone have some roots in their sewer line that caused the plumbing to get backed up before? I've read many things online mostly in the plumbing subreddit
I think we've had this issue for almost a decade, because our downstairs toilet would bubble whenever the washing machine in the same area drained out. If we tilted the toilet handle a little to add more water in the toilet then it stopped.
Last year the downstairs toilet one day had a low water level. I flushed it and it filled up and took long time to drain out. If I ran the washing machine, the dirty water would drain out and back up into toilet.
Somehow after 5 days of this and me on the verge of calling a plumber, I flushed the downstairs toilet and it flushed completely...
But made a crazy sound like it went down to the depths of hell. After that no more toilet bubbling when using the washing machine for the first time ever in a decade.
It lasted like 3 months...then the bubbling from the washing machine returned. Something that was a normal occurrence for a decade.
a week ago I noticed the downstairs toilet had that same low water level...blah blah blah and this time it didn't miraculously clear itself. I have cleanout cap right outside our backyard door and was leaking whenever I used water for more than a couple minutes.
I called a plumber and told him everything. He didn't even go inside our house. Went straight to the cleanout cap and ran a camera into the sewer line. He found roots in two spots creating a blockage.
He cleared them out and said "you'll be good for a while". Recommended I use rootx... a foaming root killer powder twice year.
Based on social media posts I've read, it will if I'm lucky hold off the roots enough I never get the main line clogged again or if I'm not as lucky it will still eventually get clogged anyway...and worst case break the sewer line.
Anyone here have experience with this? the roots cleared out wasn't a lot, but enough to block up our plumbing. Ordering that root killer powder tonight. I'm supposed to use it early spring and late fall. It's basically early spring now
