Sounds to me like the author doesn't know much about how lotteries work or appreciate that the results of just 3 or 4 jackpot runs may not be representative. The headline screams that he's missing the clue that even if PB sales were up (they're not) due to MM's price increase it's still probability that results in billion jackpots.

The average PB jackpot should have a cash value of about $195 million (1 jackpot winner for every 292 million tickets, with each ticket contributing about 67 cents to the jackpot). Right now that cash would results in an advertised annuity of about $427 million. Average MM jackpots should now be about $400 million cash, or an annuity of $875 million (using the same annuity factor as PB), but the actual jackpots (ignoring the current run that's only on the 4th drawing) have been $480 million. That's only 55% of the expected average

In the period the article considers the average PB jackpot has been 85% higher than the expected average, while the average MM jackpot has been just 55% of the expected average. Assuming that a 12/13 article didn't include sales for the 12/13 drawing that $4.1 billion total for PB includes just over $1 billion in sales for just 3 drawings (8/1, 9/3, and 9/6). Get rid of just those 3 drawings for jackpots advertising $1.1 billion or more and the sales are much closer. I don't see sales of $3 billion as a triumph over sales of $2.5 billion when it took 1 1/2 times as many drawings to sell $3 billion worth of tickets.

Of course the bigger problem with the article is that the only comparison that actually matter is how MM sales after the price increase compare to sales before the increase.

When I logged in to Michigan Lottery, I had a promotion pop up saying if you buy $10 in Mega you'll get 5 free Lotto47 tickets...lmao. Give away some free tickets after the Lotto47 jackpot was won and reset...

Wow, LA & PB are a great alternative to one MM.

Here's my latest...

Used my Bio-Quantum Computer on these last Monday's draws while I was having a san'mich at the Love's Travel Station in Floyd IA.

That LA 7 for Monday came to me from my entangled future self... he said 7777... so, my yesterday self did... my today self is happy.

Didn't connect on the PB these last two... the suspense of me Winning the PB & J is building... so says my future self.

I woulda thought you were using a AI Generative Model to make yo' pix. However, I don't recommend any particular AI model.

As for me personally, I ain't too good of a AI Prompt Engineer so my PB pix stink when I use AI to make 'em.

BTW - Last August in Greenwich Connecticut, a delusional "Tech Executive" with a long history of mental instability murdered his 83 year old mother after chatting with ChatGPT which kinda said it was OK to proceed with killing his mother by using blunt force trauma. The cops found both his mother and him dead while performing a welfare check. (I can't understand how any company in their right mind could promote somebody with a long history of mental instability to their executive ranks. I'd like to get a look at the guy who promoted him. If the guy who promoted him didn't know he was a psychopath, then I'd know I was looking at a different kind of moron. But I digress.)

Know what? I've actually seen a prototype quantum computer, but it wasn't your brain.

Saw it in a pic in an online newspaper from NY's Hudson Valley where IBM has a mainframe manufacturing facility. They're switching over to quantum machines by making a 5 billion dollar investment in their Poughkeepsie, NY factory. Worked there for 32 years but retired and moved to Florida. G5

Gotta love the tech types that create a new buzzword for their latest pile of horse puckey, and nobody knows what the Hell they're talking about. They're known for looking down a very long and condescending nose at you when you ask them to say it in plain English! They might try and justify their words by saying something like "If it was hard to create, then it should be hard to understand."

An AI Generative "Model" is an "algorithm." Algorithm is a fancy word for a computer program. ChatGPT is just one type of AI Model. It's a "generative" model.
