I don't know why everybody obsesses with Kurt Panouses. I'm sure he'll do a fantastic job, but his law practice isn't the only good law firm in town.

I live on Florida's West Coast. Well within a one hour drive from my house there are at least two good law firms that can do everything/anything Panouses can do. I sure as Hell wouldn't drive over to The East Cost of Florida to Panouses's office when I could drive to the two firms located near me.

Panouses advertises his lottery expertise heavily, and with good reason. Here's a cut and paste I took from a law firm's website that's located in St Petersburg.

The legal field for representing lottery winners is notably sparse, and here’s why:
1. Lack of Repeat Business: Lottery wins are rare, life-changing events. Unlike other areas of law where ongoing legal needs create repeat clients—such as family law or real estate—lottery winners typically only require legal assistance once. This infrequency makes it less appealing for lawyers to specialize in this niche.
2. Low Referral Rates: Happy lottery winners, understandably, don’t often refer others since the situation is unique and not commonly experienced. Contrast this with areas like personal injury, where clients may usually know others in similar circumstances and can recommend services.
3. Niche Specialization: Representing lottery winners involves understanding a unique set of financial, tax, and legal challenges. Lawyers may prefer to focus on broader fields that promise a steadier stream of clients.

I hear ya G5...I have known him for about 12 years. We don't have anyone up here in the whole state in the gaming field with his history of representation. Nothing under the Super Lawyer list either. Got a do the best I can with what's is known.

Agreed, what else can you possibly do!

Mr. Panouses is very aware of the reasons I put into my post above. He knows what most people don't know. Those reasons dictate to him that if he wants to specialize as a Lottery Lawyer, then he'll have to advertise heavily. If he picks up clients located in states other than Florida, so much the better.

My thinking is along the lines of the law is the law pretty much wherever you go. (At least Florida Lottery laws apply equally to everybody that lives in The State of Florida.) Just because he "specializes" in Lottery law does not automatically make him more qualified than other estate planning lawyers.

It's also true that TN does not have as many people living in the state as Florida does. (Florida is the 3rd most populated state in The USA) That alone says to me that it'll be much harder to find a lawyer that wants to service lottery winners in TN. G5

In Florida it seems that the estate planning lawyers are in agreement that an irrevocable trust (a "Blind Trust") is the way to fly. Little to no mention on their websites of LLC's. But I live in Florida and you don't, so what do I know??

The majority of fortune 500 companies incorporate in Delaware because it is so pro business.
1. You do not really want a blind trust. That is usually where you turn over all your assets to be managed by someone else and you have no knowledge in how it is invested. It is often used by a President or other high ranking officials to prevent a conflict of interest or the appearance of one. A blind trust would make it very easy to have your money stolen like the infamous lottery attorney Jason.. People sometimes seem to think a blind trust is used to claim lottery winnings but the word blind is referring to lack of knowledge in how the funds are managed.
You want a simple revocable trust to have someone claim.the money on your behalf if your state allows it. Once the money is claimed and deposited, it is yours to control and you can make the decision for the next steps.

An irrevocable trust is not really a true blind trust and I would never use one unless you are incapacitated. So an irrevocable trust cannot be changed and in a blind trust, someone completely controls your assets.

I would tell my husband, , son, dog , my 3 brothers, my sister and even the little mouse that lives in the crack between the dishwasher and sink.

I would even give that little mouse a nice home, he lives in dangerous times because if my dog gets him he's going to be a chew toy, and if my husband gets him, he'll probably get stomped on and if my son gets him, he 'll be captured and set free in the field across the street where and owl or hawk would get him.

So there it is, yes I have soft spot for a mouse. and would like to win a nice chunk of change.
