Classic all-time favorite love stories (no wonder it has inspired artists for centuries!).

Here’s how it goes…

Psyche was a mortal woman of exceptional beauty who attracted hundreds of admirers.

The word of her popularity spread and caused Aphrodite (the Goddess of Love) to fly into a jealous rage.

To restore her position as the world’s most loved woman, Aphrodite sent her son, Eros to poison the souls of men so they would no longer desire Psyche.

But, instead of fulfilling her wish, Eros himself fell madly in love with Psyche.

Knowing his mother would be displeased, he kept his feelings a secret.

Many years passed and Psyche remained unmarried, unable to find her true love.

Her desperate parents went to Apollo to ask for his advice.

Apollo, who knew about Eros’ secret love for their daughter, told them that Psyche must wed a beast who was waiting on the mountain for her.

He also told Psyche that, because the beast was so ugly, she must never look at his face and that she could only visit him at night.

To the great disappointment of her parents, Psyche married the monster.

Much to her surprise however, she found great happiness with her new husband as he showered her with his unfailing love and tenderness.

When she told her sisters how happy she was, they became jealous and hatched a plan.

They warned Psyche that her monster-husband would kill her if she did not kill him first.

The next night, Psyche went to see her husband, armed with a knife and an oil lamp.

When she shone the lamp on her husband, she was shocked to see Eros’ beautiful face rather than that of the ugly beast.

Startled by her discovery, Psyche accidentally spilled the oil from the lamp on Eros.

He screamed and flew away, shouting that she had betrayed him and their relationship.

When Aphrodite heard this story, she became furious and imprisoned her son.

Anxious to see her true love again, Psyche begged Aphrodite to release him.

Aphrodite replied that she would only release Eros if Psyche completed 3 difficult tasks.

Fueled by deep love and desperation, Psyche completed 2 out of the 3 tasks but almost died trying to complete the third.

Hearing this, Eros escaped from prison, pleading with Zeus to save his love.

Greatly touched by the couple’s devotion to each other, Zeus granted Psyche immortality so that their great love would never die.

Together at last, Eros and Psyche quite literally lived happily ever after.

Ahhh… love…

Love is in the air.

• A new federal law is making it impossible for truck drivers to responsibly enjoy marijuana.

The trucking industry has been yelling about a driver shortage for decades. Since 2011, executives have listed the supposed shortage of truck drivers as a top 10 concern in an annual industry survey.

When it comes to recruiting, kids these days are perhaps the most vexing for trucking big wigs. Millennials and Gen Z just don't seem to want to become truck drivers. The most recent report from the American Trucking Associations on the driver shortage pointed to the "relatively high average age" of a truck driver (a whopping 46 years old) as one of the foremost reasons for the industry's labor woes. (The ATA is the industry group that represents America's larger trucking companies.)

Written by an Australian Dentist     To Kill an American      You probably missed this in the rush of news, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper, an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.      So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they met one. (Good one, mate!!!!)   'An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish , Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.   An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.      An American is Christian , or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in      Afghanistan       . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses..   An American is also free to believe in no religion.. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God. An American lives in the most prosperous land in       the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence , which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.      An American is generous.. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.   When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!   As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan .. The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America   Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11 , 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists. So you can try to kill an American if you must.. Hitler did. So did General Tojo , and Stalin , and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world.. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself . Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Group dashes out of San Francisco Neiman Marcus store after handbag robbery

More good news from San Francisco retail stores. At this rate they are lucky to have any stores open by the end of the year.
