PARIS, France — One of the Catholic Church’s holiest sites, Lourdes, is holding its first-ever online pilgrimage on Thursday, to mark the anniversary of claims by 19th-century girl Bernadette Soubirous that the Virgin Mary appeared to her.

July 16 marks the anniversary of Bernadette’s visions, and the discovery of allegedly healing spring waters. It led the church to build a cathedral there in southern France near the Pyrenees.

The day-long celebrations include Masses, processions and prayers, in addition to priests and guests speaking about how Lourdes has impacted their lives. It’s being called “Lourdes United,” and is being broadcast all day until 10 p.m.

As well as being a holy site, Lourdes also attracts around 3 million pilgrims a year — the second most popular place after Paris — and the region’s tourism has badly suffered during the coronavirus crisis.

Megan Thee Stallion suffered multiple gunshot wounds, but is expected to make a full recovery. In a note posted on Instagram on Wednesday, the rising rapper said she’s “lucky to be alive.”

The 25-year-old “Savage” singer wanted to “set the record straight” as she called the narrative being pushed in the media “inaccurate.”

“On Sunday morning, I suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me. I was never arrested, the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets,” she shared. “I’m incredibly grateful to be alive and that I'm expected to make a full recovery, but it was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night.”

Megan added in the caption, “This whole experience was an eye opener and a blessing in disguise. I hate that it took this experience for me to learn how to protect my energy.”

Two statues of the Virgin Mary were vandalised in Boston and New York over the weekend.

The authorities are investigating incidents that occurred outside the Saint Peter’s Parish church in Dorchester, Boston, on Saturday and the Cathedral Prep School and Seminary in Elmhurst, Queens, New York, on Friday.

Police were called to the Saint Peter’s Parish church on Saturday night after the plastic flowers included on the statue were set on fire.

The statue was damaged with burn marks on the face, arms and hands, and Father John Currie, who is the pastor of the church, said his reaction the the news was “sadness. Disappointment. Our image of our lady is so important to us in our faith.”

The pastor claimed to CBS Boston that the person who vandalised the statue “is obviously someone disturbed, someone who has a lot of trouble, a troubled soul.”

However, Mr Currie added that his message is “of love, and peace, and mercy, and forgiveness. Again, this person may be troubled and we don’t want to add to trouble in the world or your life. We want to be an instrument of healing for your reconciliation.”

Although the church owns surveillance cameras, the statue is not covered by them, and the authorities are asking for help from the public to find any suspects.

On Friday, a separate statue of the Virgin Mary, that stands outside the Cathedral Preparatory School and Seminary, was vandalised and police are searching for a man who left the scene wearing a pink head covering, according to CBS New York.

When staff turned up to the school on Friday morning, they noticed that the word “IDOL” had been spray painted on the statue.

The president and rector of the school, Father James Kuroly, called the vandalism “an act of hatred,” according to AMNY.

He added: “Obviously, this tragedy saddens us deeply but it also renews our hope and faith in the Lord as he has shown his goodness in the many people who have already reached out to us. We are sincerely grateful for the help we have received as well as the prayers.”

The statue was cleaned during the day on Friday and had been restored by the afternoon.

Steven Shields was arrested after driving a car into a Catholic Church and setting it on fire in Ocala, Florida: Marion County Sheriff's Office

A Florida man was arrested on Saturday after crashing his car into a Catholic church and then setting the building on fire with parishioners still inside, officials said.

The Marion County Sheriff’s office said that Steven Shields deliberately drove his vehicle through the doors of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ocala at 7.30am as the congregation prepared for Mass.

He then got out of the car, poured gasoline around the foyer and set it on fire, before driving off.

Deputy Josue Gonzalez spotted Mr Shields’ vehicle and gave chase, ramming it with his patrol car, according to a statement by the sheriff’s office.

There were no injuries reported at the church and the fire was extinguished by Marion County firefighters, though there was extensive damage to the building.

Mr Shields has been charged with attempted second-degree murder; arson to a structure of a structure believed to be occupied; burglary of an occupied structure using a motor vehicle; and felony fleeing.

Man Opens Fire On Victim In Traffic: Walnut Creek

Police say the victim was stopped in the left turn lane when a man walked up to the vehicle and opened fire.

WALNUT CREEK, CA — A person sitting in traffic in Walnut Creek was shot Monday afternoon, according to Walnut Creek Police. The victim is hospitalized in stable condition. No arrests have been announced.

Police were notified of the shooting at the intersection of Homestead Avenue and Ygnacio Valley Road shortly before 5 p.m.

According to a release signed by Chief of Police Thomas Chaplin, "The victim was stopped in his vehicle on Homestead Ave. in the northbound left turn lane at Ygnacio Valley Rd. While stopped, an adult Hispanic male suspect approached on foot and fired multiple shots into the victim's vehicle with a handgun."

The suspect is described as an Hispanic man, approximately 25 years old, around 5'5 with an average build, a low-cut haircut, and a mustache.

The release continues, "Based on preliminary information, investigators believe this is an isolated incident and do not believe there is an active threat to the community."
