Big Powerball prize will go to unclaimed fund if winner doesn't come forward

There's an unclaimed Powerball ticket worth $1 million that will expire in West Virginia if the winner doesn't step forward to claim it in two weeks' time.
West Virginia Lottery officials are searching for the owner of a Powerball lottery ticket that won a $1 million prize in a drawing that took place in March.
Lottery Acting Director David Bradley encouraged players "to check their cars, purses, and pockets" for the missing ticket, which will expire on Sept. 8, 2025 if the rightful ticketholder does not come forward.
The ticket matched all five white ball numbers in the March 12, 2025 drawing, which were 11, 13, 28, 51, and 58. Had it matched the Powerball number 1, it would have won that evening's $353 million jackpot. The ticket was purchased at Par Mar on Main Street in Hurricane.
Lottery winners of daily draw games in West Virginia have 180 days from the date of the drawing to claim prizes. Expired prizes are transferred to the Lottery's unclaimed prize fund, which contributes to prizes for future lottery games, second chance drawings and promotions, and retailer commissions.
The announcement follows a jackpot alert from the Lottery for the Powerball multi-state game, which currently offers a juicy $815 million prize for Wednesday's drawing at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time.
Powerball is played in 45 states, plus the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Tickets cost $2 each.
Powerball lottery results are published within minutes of the drawing at USA Mega (www.usamega.com). The USA Mega Web site provides lottery players in-depth information about the United States's two biggest multi-state lottery games, Mega Millions and Powerball.

I've accidentally washed a few tickets over the years...
That is a clean $581,800 after both federal and state taxes in WV.
I would definitely make good use of such a tidy sum.
I hope the winner is till getting their proffesional team in place before coming forward.
I put my tickets in the same spot, every single day.
* If it goes unclaimed, it would pale in comparison to the $16.7 mil that a winner in 2013 from Florida failed to show up & pocket that serious chunk of change.😵
Why buy tickets if you are not interested in checking them. Someone else could use that cash 💸 💰 🤑. What a waste 🗑 of opportunity.
The fact that this keeps happening is proof society is full of idiots. And one of em got president!
I keep my tickets in the same location ..... then I wait for the drawing ......then I check my tickets .... then if I win a small amount I put that ticket in my wallet to put towards the next big drawing.
As for the losing tickets .....I keep them overnight in the same location ... to check them tomorrow once again . ...just in case the numbers changed between then and the present.
Then when I have checked my tickets multiple times ....I rip them up and toss in trash ..... so that I'll have no memory of the numbers ....because very often I'm tempted to purchase the same number that I bought as a quikpic .
Then it's LIVERWURST time!!!!!

it's in the junk draw in the kitchen, tucked between the pages of a takeout menu for a restaurant that went out of business in 2018. it may also have a 4-year-old blue jolly rancher stuck to it. luckily it is still edible. don't ask how i know.
We should have a contest, who has the most Taco Bell sauce packets , Chop sticks and old Lottery Tickets.
