Mega Millions and Powerball Race
The Powerball jackpot increased by $30.3 million to $775 million after 37 rolls.
Last time around PB's advertised increase in this range was $65 million, from 750 to 815 (later boosted to 850, for an increase of $100 million). There's a chance this one will also get a boost tomorrow, but no way the boost gets it to 840ish. Some of that difference is due to the interest rate. Based on the cash value that just gave us an annuity of 740 the cash value of last run's 750 annuity would have been

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Here are some possibilities about what's coming.
It takes 201 million tickets to reach a 50% chance of getting a winner. We obviously can't get a winner in any of the previous drawings, so from this point there's a 50% chance that the cash value will reach about $668 million. At the current interest rate that would be an advertised annuity of $1.44 billion.
On average it takes 292.47 million tickets to produce each winner, so once the cash value has reached $391.7 million (tonight's valu

Please explain what you are referring to. Are you talking about a reduction in sales, annuity value or cash value?

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Texas lottery has it at 1.15 currently.
Just to clarify, none of the places I checked, including the TX website, is advertising 1.15. The worksheet with the sales estimates OTOH, is now saying he supported annuity is 1.155, and the sales forecast has been bumped up from $133 million to $162 million. A roll (about a 75% chance) will see an advertised annuity of 1.3 and the worksheet is currently listing the supported jackpot as $1.323 billion. The supported jackpot estimate almost certainly

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
We are also skipping Mega Millions this week. Waiting for the jackpot to get a lot bigger. At least bigger than Powerball.
My reasons are very different than MM's reasons, but I'm hoping that we'll see a ridiculously large jackpot in 3 months or so. By that time PB will either have been won or be well beyond the current record. Either way, at $5 per ticket for essentially the same odds I think it's foolish to buy a MM ticket unless it's substantially bigger than PB. Regardless of what PB is

Is the Annuity payout safe?
For the most part I think the annuity is a safe option.
More so with the Multi State Games.
The safety of the annuity may be argued in terms of the payout duration. Are we certain of living for the next 29 years to collect all the payments? No one knows for certain.
Will the tax environment change so much and affect the future payments negatively? Who knows.
Is there a possibility of any country ending up like Ukraine? If yes, would I want the government to be holding my money or

Sounds to me like the author doesn't know much about how lotteries work or appreciate that the results of just 3 or 4 jackpot runs may not be representative. The headline screams that he's missing the clue that even if PB sales were up (they're not) due to MM's price increase it's still probability that results in billion jackpots.
The average PB jackpot should have a cash value of about $195 million

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Well, for me, not tonight, but I will on Friday if it rolls over today.
The 161.6 M annuity (yes I will take the annuity) is a great win. First payment of 2.4M is more than enough for 12 months. I don't see myself spending 200K a month
If I was to take the lump sum, 71.7M after all taxes is nothing to sneeze about.
So yes, I will be playing MM, but only when the jackpot gets to a certain amount (when the annuity is 100M) and only once a week, on a Friday.
My reasoning is that th

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I don't think it has ever been unusual for the first draw or two to be underfunded, but they need to offer some minimum amount or even the addicts might stop playing. MM is gambling that $50 million is the minimum advertised jackpot that will get enough people playing, while posing a minimum risk of paying a jackpot before it's fully funded. The most recent example I see is when MM was hit on the first drawing a couple of years ago. Total sales of $19,255,000 only funded $13,759,894 of the start

Annuity or Cash Value
Am always torn between Cash and Annuity.
But I think should I win, I would opt for the Cash Option.
At a moderate 7% annual return, and a modest draw down, the money would grow past the annuity by year 10 to 15.
It's true that a lot can change in 30 years, from tax laws to stability.
