Pick 4 Math Help?
With 24 permutations possible for any given singles combination the odds of that combination hitting in any form is 24::1000, or 1::41.67.
I'd have to pound out a probabilities spreadsheet to determine the odds on that specific occurance you cite, but time is a little restricted for me right now.

AMX Pick 3
Thanks everyone, I just wanted to make sure my suspicions were right.
I'm actually a little surprised they didn't take the ad copy a little further and say something like this:
The odds against hitting a Pick 3 are 999:1. With this system all you have to do is get one digit right, in any position, and you get paid. A Pick 3 is drawn in three tubes of balls each numbered 0 to 9. The odds of guessing any one of those numbers is 9:1. Which sounds better?

How many tickets should I buy at each store if I were buying many?
Well, I learned something a few weeks ago. $10 tickets aren't the best tickets to buy in a large number. I bought an entire roll of $10 tickets at odds of 1:2.3. I saw 5 tickets back to back without a winner. Be cautious when buying them. The highest winner I got in a pack of $10 (remember I paid $300 for them) was one $30 winner. I made back only $180 out of my $300.
As far as store... It doesn't matter. Althought busy stores sell more winners they move a lot of tickets. Your odds

I quit Chain purchasing scratchers.
I think it depends on what ticket you play. I like to buy about 5-10 of the same ticket just in case. You never know what the next ticket might bring you. In Florida I bought 1 $20 ticket and lost. That's a lot of money to lose at one time playing the lottery. But for some reason I thought you never know what the next ticket holds. I bought the next ticket anyway and won $100. That's the integrity of the game and that's why people play.
Something I have noticed. $1 games have very

The Meaning of Random Drawing
Think of a person flipping a coin 10 times and coming up with head every time even though the odds are suppose to be 50/50 of coming up tail. If you were betting on the next flip, would you bet head or tail? Some people would bet tail because the odds are suppose to be 50/50 and tail hasn't come up yet, but it makes sense to me to bet head because the flips have not been 50/50 and head seems to be the preferred outcome. Great analogy! I would probably bet on tail, but you do make se

The Meaning of Random Drawing
four4me: there is another thread on this ballset subject where I just posted, but after reading your post, I do agree that your example of the bottle caps is true. Every time you pick them out of a bag, it is a random drawing. However, if a lottery has 6 or more pre-tests, even if every draw is random, the 6 sets of numbers picked will be discarded. So let's say the odds are 1 in 50 million you are going to win and your 6 numbers come up in the pre-test. What are the odds it will be chosen agai

Math Questions
About 1::253.0
There are 41,416,353 different possibilities in a 5/47+1/27 matrix. There are 1,533,939 possibilities in a 5/47 matrix alone, and any given number will appear 163,185 times, yielding odds of about 1::9.4. Adding the +1/27 would yield the same number of possibilities but increase the odds to 1::253.

Are these numbers considered bad??
Not surprised, Raven. Same sort of thing happens here. And the original question was whether or not the member's QPs were bad . And I don't think they are any worse for the next draw than any other QP. Over the long haul, sure, three consecutives won't come out that often. But they do hit, as you show, and no one knows if the next drawing may not be one where they do hit. And each ccombination in any particular game has the same odds of hitting as any other, if all you want to look at is odd

Mega millions invention...

How did they figure out, what was going to be the payout for second and lower prizes.
They structured the games payouts around predicted sales. Which include everything from operating costs, profit money for the state and anything else that they deemed necessary. Apparently there is a mathematical formula they use to determine the odds and the payouts. When they add or subtract balls/numbers for the drawings (change the matrix of the game) they recalculate the drawings odds
