SUMS
Hyper, It makes no difference how you look at it.... as long as you play and think consistently. Serious players may not win all the time ....the odds you know.... but we are consistently closer than a guess. The draw is random.......But there is a huge .......I said huge ....amount of forecast that can be made in all these games everywhere and every year. For a random draw .....it's maddening how many consistencies there are. Many! Almost too many to call it random, so many that alot of peo

Probability of a rollover in PB and MM
Yes it does mean exactly that. There is a 37% probability of any lottery where the number of tickets sold exactly equals the odds against winning it are sold irrespective of the odds. This result may seem somewhat surprising, but you verify this sort of thing experimentally by arranging a set of containers like paper cups in such a way that there is no bias. Then throw an equal number of objects (in an unbiased way), pennies would work, so that they land into the container. If you have a

Expected Return
You're all welcome. I've been trying to find out the expected payoffs for Canada's Lotto 6/49 and Lotto Super 7. My hypothesis is that even though they offer tax-free cash jackpots, they have never had a positive expected return because of high sales. I am requesting if prob987 or other statistical guru can plug the numbers into their complex formula and confirm this. The last time the 6/49 jackpot exceeded the 1 in 13,983,816 odds was for a $15 million draw back in November 15, 1997. Looking

Zillion/1?
Uri -ty for the kind words. But, in actuality, my response may be confusing due to the haste in which I posted. One has to go into probability for another possibility.Let's use the 3/49 game for an example. There are 18,424 possible draws. But the chances of achieving those 18.424 different draws in 18,424 games are extremely remote. If you were lucky enough to achieve 18,423 different draws in the first 18,423 games drawn, the odds of drawing the 18,424th different game in the next draw are sti

Questions for Lottery Official
The following is another interesting discussion we had dealing with quick picks.Quick picks are generted by the terminal. There is no communication back to the central computer in order to generate the quick pick. Once the random quick pick is created, then the ticket contents are sent to the central system to be recorded and then the ticket is printed. There has been talk (I think on this site) that the system picks quick picks to help generate jackpot roll overs. He reported as fact that this i

How is it possible?
Yo! Don't get me wrong now. I am no fool. I understand that your odds of winning is greatl. But fixed as it may be, You can still be lucky enough to be in a position to receive the benefits from that fix. But, if you don't play, you will receive zero. Random picked numbers are randomly pick more than once. That's what I mean by THE LAW OF AVERAGE. What is the average that this number will appear again? Past history will reveal some insight. I am fairly new to this WONDERFUL FORUM, but I

How is it possible?
It is known that the distribution of numbers picked by players (as opposed to quick picks) are heavily weighted towards birthdates. The numbers 1 through 12 are way over-represented.In the distribution of quick picked numbers, few numbers appear with a frequency greater than three standard deviations from the mean. In the distribution of picked numbers, the numbers 1-12 appear to mostly be ten or more standard deviations from the mean as measured in appearance frequency. The number 7 is 19

Surveyr on New Lotto System
I would be more interested in numbers that you post for a specific state and not the world. Say for example you post numbers that will come up in Georgia. I am no Cash 3 player but the odds are already 1 in 1000 and if you add all the states that have Cash 3 games it seems it would be a lot easier to say hey I predict 123 will come up somewhere in the universe as opposed to saying I predict 123 will come up in Georgia in 7 days? How many states have Cash 3? 36? And most of those have daily an

How is it possible?
Quote: How can you participate in something you don't even play?I play Powerball when it goes over $200 million.Quote: I understand that someone CAN win based on the Odds but there's no law that says someone HAS to win.Why do you think they have rollovers in the lottery?I'm not talking about someone winning every game every time. I'm talking about the basic principle of odds, that overall there will always be a certain percentage of winners and losers. Besides, that point neither proves nor disp
