Mega Millions and Powerball Race
Why the 2 draws down about 5 and 10 million about 3 weeks ago? I think the good question that even the MM people might not have an answer to is why a few drawing had a bigger jump even though the jackpot wasn't very big yet. There's a suggestion that it's a result of the huge PB jackpot, but I only have some unsupported guesses about why the PB jackpot increased MM sales. I think the big drops were simply a correction to unusually high sales. Lets say the odds for each of the next fours

I assume the left column on your spreadsheet is sales. It drops $5 million and then $10 million.

Please explain what you are referring to. Are you talking about a reduction in sales, annuity value or cash value?

MM $5, PB $2, Powerplay $1I
I think it would be really stupid for Powerball to do the same thing and make their game terrible as well. How stupid it is depends on how stupid their target demographic is. So far, for any advertised jackpot at $5 per ticket MM is collecting more revenue than they did at $2 per ticket. If sales remain relatively modest even when it goes up another 200, 500 or 800 million they might lose out in the long run due to a higher percentage of drawings with sales of $20 to $50 million, but in the

Texas lottery has it at 1.15 currently. Just to clarify, none of the places I checked, including the TX website, is advertising 1.15. The worksheet with the sales estimates OTOH, is now saying he supported annuity is 1.155, and the sales forecast has been bumped up from $133 million to $162 million. A roll (about a 75% chance) will see an advertised annuity of 1.3 and the worksheet is currently listing the supported jackpot as $1.323 billion. The supported jackpot estimate almost certainly

Oregon Lottery proposes rules regulating courier services and preventing bulk ticket purchases
Out of state or international sales violates gaming regulations. Wagers for a state lottery have to be placed in that state.

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Yes, it's very telling the advertised jackpot increase is only $10 M after 8 rollovers. Do you understand how the game and its financing work? Both PB and MM have always started with artificially high jackpots that aren't fully funded, and never had more than the minimum increase until there's enough cash to fully fund the jackpot. The smaller jackpot of the old format was funded quickly. With the new format the jackpot would remain artificially high for more drawings with exactly the same

Mega Millions Drawing Increase
Here you go Elmer Fudd..... portion of Mega Millions ticket sales revenue does go to the states that participate in the lottery. Here's how it generally works Mega Millions and Powerball: For these large, multi-state lotteries, 50% of the sales revenue goes into the prize pool to fund winnings. States' Share: The remaining 50% is allocated to participating states. A Mega Millions spokesperson told ABC News that this remaining 50% covers retailers' commissions, vendor fees, lottery admin
