Massachusetts father and son found guilty of fraud after cashing in $20M worth of lottery tickets
So... you would have to purchase 12,411 tickets every single day for 180 days to find 569 winning tickets over a 6 month period of time. Wow.... I don't play many scratch offs but also never realized how bad the odds were.

Massachusetts man wins six $25,000 a Year for Life prizes in one Lucky for Life drawing
I wasn't disputing the fact that he had 6 2nd place tickets, only that by playing 6 identical tickets with the same Lucky Ball (instead of choosing 6 different Lucky Balls, thereby increasing his odds of winning the top prize sixfold) he got the same result- 6 2nd place tickets. Kate stated that - had he had the Lucky Ball correct- he would have had 6 tickets worth $7 million each. Simply incorrect.

Maryland Lottery to switch to computerized drawings
It's sort of like 6:5 Blackjack with no surrender. People still play it because they're not smart enough to realize the odds have increased over 400% to the favor of the house. And, the younger generation isn't familiar with the original rules of Blackjack, so it's easier to change the rules without much protest.

Wit and Wisdom of old lottery players...
Good post cottoneyedjoe. I guess I would consider myself an Old Lottery Player . Been playing since the 1980's. Came close to a jackpot in Ohio's lotto getting 5 out of 6, in a game that was a 6/40 (?) game with much better odds than we see in today's games. Of course, close only counts in Horseshoes and hand grenades. I've tried all kinds of strategies and ideas over the years, like many others. While many might disagree, I have come to believe that with today's games and the odds t

1 in 400 million?
I don't follow your logic that $1 million is too big for a 4+0 prize assuming a $2 ticket. The odds only have to be bigger than the prize and 3.7 million is larger than 1 million.

1 in 400 million?
You're probably right about both things -- too many balls is a no-go, and increasing the odds is not sustainable. Looking at 4/99 + 1/53, its prize levels would be 4 + 1: 1 in 199,511,928 4 + 0: 1 in 3,693,350 3 + 1: 1 in 525,031 3 + 0: 1 in 10,097 2 + 1: 1 in 7,447 2 + 0: 1 in 143 1 + 1: 1 in 360 0 + 1: 1 in 63 overall odds of winning: 1 in 38.5 The second prize odds are too low to support a $1M prize, it would have to be something like half a mill a

For those playing pick 4, pick 5
Yes, you're doing it right. Instead playing the dollar ticket you're playing the .50c per ticket increasing your odds to win by making more combinations.
