I stopped playing Powerball and Mega Millions when I realized this: Mega Millions 3+1: Play $2, odds 1:14,547, prize $200. I consider this a ripoff because 3-ball: Play $1, odds 1:1000, prize $500 in most states. Higher prize, much better odds, and lower investment. 4-ball: Play $1, odds 1:10,000, prize $5000 in most states. Much higher prize, better, odds, and lower investment. I will not play Mega Millions unless, for example, the 3+1 prize goes up to $14,500 on a $2 ticket

You are 100% correct. Unfortunately when the odds get really good the tickets are often hard to find. States play games like this too when they just phase out tickets when the odds get really good. That being said I like to keep my eye out for the good ones, especially if I'm traveling and am passing through smaller towns/gas stations.
