There Are A Few Good Ones In NY
Well, if you thought Instant Take Five was good before, just wait until you hear the actual overall odds. The actual overall odds for Instant Take Five (including Take Five QP prizes) is : 1 : 1.76 !!!That's about 3 winners for every four you buy. And while most of those are Take Five QP's, that in itself has good odds for a numbers game. The New York lottery has some real contrasts. $5 tickets with 1 in 5 odds, but $1 games with 1 in 1.76 odds.

Another New York Concept
It's all about the odds. Your odds of matching 0 numbers is about 1 in 21. Compare that with the odds of matching 5 numbers, that's about 1 in 19. Close, but still shorter odds. And they simply decided to reward the prize levels with the highest odds, as opposed to the most numbers.

Would you know a good bet if U-C-1
Quote: Originally posted by WIN D on February 13, 2005 I guess no one else knows what a good bet is either Badger. I already said what i believe is a good bet. It's one that wins most of the time. That could be 51% or 60% or 90% of the time. Find any situation of 50/50...... and find it having hit that way 10 times in a row...oh boy! Then..... bet it to go the other way. You will be right over 90% of the time. You may only see it once a yr. in your State's game.... but that would be a great

The Lottery Book
You can lower your odds substantially by eliminating numbers drawn the previous draw in a jackpot game. For example, using one of the simplest jackpot games, 5/30, the odds are 1 : 142,506. Eliminating the previously drawn digits makes it a 5/25 game with odds of 1 : 53,130 or a 63% reduction in odds. A repeat number in a 5/30 game happens about 50% of the time.So 50% of the time you have lowered your odds by 63% of winning the jackpot. Mathematically it makes sense.

Players cross the border for Powerball
you only should play when the jackpots are high, use all your bullets for jackpots that have the best dollar to odds ratio. its just smart playing. when you chase 165 million to one odds you want to be paid that god forbid you hit it. but your a lot smarter playing take fives and such with a lot shorter odds where if you blow 500 bucks when the jackpot is say 500K at least your cutting your odds down to about 1000 to one. and many people have bucked those odds before.

Buying more tickets = reduced odds
Quote: Originally posted by wiseone2 on May 05, 2004I said I wasn't going to post anything else on this topic, but I must clarify the issue. Each number combination you purchase has a 1:120,000,000 chance of winning or the odds against you are 120,000,000 to 1. The purchase of 2 number combinations does not change the odds against you to 60,000,000 to 1. Probability is figured by calculating total probable cases. Comparing number of chances to probability is like apples to oranges. The numb

Buying more tickets = reduced odds
For everyone that thinks they know how to figure odds:There are 1000 total possible cases in pick-3 lottery, the straight bet being considered, from 0 (000, in fact) to 999. Only one 3-digit combination is drawn, therefore the winning probability is 1 / 1000 (0.001). The lottery commission says the odds are 1 in 1000, or 1000 to 1.There are 10000 total possible cases in pick-4 lottery, the straight bet being considered, from 0 (0000, in fact) to 9999. Only one 4-digit combination is drawn, ther

Question for you math pros...
The general consensus (and the way the lottery explains your odds) seems to be that if you are playing a lottery with say 1,000,000 to 1 odds, is that you've lowered your odds by 50% by buying a second ticket. In actuality, haven't you lowered your odds to just 999,999 to 1 odds?I'd like to hear your opinions. Thanks!

Mega Millions getting boring
Megamillions is structured to generate large jackpots and can not do that with better odds. States can change thier state lotteries to attract those players who are willing to play for smaller jackpots with better odds. Some players will alway play the games with the bigger jackpots even if they have to travel to another state regardless of the odds. Ohio has been disappointed with the Megamillions, but not with the odds but the sizes of the jackpots, so it not likely the odds are going to

Odds
You were in the other thread about this subject. You are confusing odds with combinations. If you check the odds of matching 3 without matching the bonus ball the odds are 1:245. There are 10 combinations of 3's in the winning combination of five, but there are 551,310 possible combinations of 5's which contain one of those combinations of 3's The odds of 1:245 is derived by reducing 551,310/135,145,920. I have never seen those odds expressed as 551,310:135,145,920.RJOh
