North Carolina Governor Mike Easley renewed his commitment to establishing a state lottery in his State of the State Address last night.Although Easley said that his proposed budget will not include money from a lottery, budget analysts say that a state lottery could raise at least $300 million a year.Easley recounted during his speech a man at a church who was against the lottery. He was selling me a raffle ticket at the time. Well, I'm for the education raffle, Easley said.In 2002 Easley f

An observation from the raffle that just ended ... I finally got around to actually checking my numbers. I had scanned the tickets on Monday but never checked my numbers against the winning list of numbers ... to see how close any of my tickets might have been to one of the eight large winning tickets.
None of my tickets were close to any large prize ... however, it seems again that those that bought last minute tickets on Oct 31st ... just hours before the drawing had a shot at several large

D.C. Lottery hopes raffle will bring fiscal success
The D.C. Lottery's Quick Cash game had been around for more than 15 years when Todd Zimmerman walked into Rodman's Drugs in Northwest in February 2005 and bought two $1 tickets.
With three games on each ticket, the government contractor won the maximum $250,000 jackpot for each of the six games. But the improbable $1.5 million payout also helped put the D.C. Lottery's Quick Cash game more than $640,000 in the red for the year, records show.
Within months, the game was canceled, although lo

Question Regarding The Odds of The Pennsylvania Millionaire Raffle
Let's look at the manual aspect of a raffle.
If we assume there are 500,000 raffle tickets sold and each prize winning ticket is drawn one at a time from the mixing drum, then we need to examine what is happening at each moment of selection.
In the 1st Top Prize, one ticket is selected from the drum of 500,000.
The odds of one purchased ticket winning the 1st Top Prize is 1 : 499,999.
Now, the drum is closed and the tickets are mixed again.
How many tickets a left in the drum?

PA Raffle Countdown
Now, some of you good folks may know that I live in New York State, and that I drove about an hour to PA to buy raffle tickets for this last raffle.
I bought a total of 11 tickets. Seven for me, three for two guys at work, and one for my brother.
The day before I drove over to PA, I saw my brother. Here's a bit of how our conversation went;
Me: I'm driving over to Matamoras tomorrow. (We were born there and spent a portion of our childhood there)
Him: Why ya goin' over there?
Me:

Discovery - New PA Raffle Game Change
Ron ... you have some great ideas, yes I would also buy a $50 or $100 raffle ticket with very good odds or lower number of tickets ... of course I would only be buying one ticket. I also like the idea of a raffle game every month ... maybe 100,000 total tickets sold as you mentioned.
However, I hope the Lottery will just leave the game alone for now and try the new format a few more times. They don't have to make a killing on every raffle game ... as long as they can cover all the prizes and
