Why the sudden concern with anonymity ?
Had I not read the names on Lottery Post, I would only know there was a winner in Georgia and New Jersey. If the winner is from Ohio I can find out which store in which city sold the ticket on their website. Two out of the four $1 million winners in the Labor Day Raffle formed a trust but the Lottery Commission published where the tickets were sold. The local news media will want an interview with a large jackpot winner but I doubt after asking the usual questions they would follow them aroun

Revamped PA Millionaire Raffle - This Summer
When Illinois had their raffle I bought one ticket, sounded good. Odds are certainly better than 6/52 or MM and PB (they have to be with a $20 price tag). Illinois had 509 winners out of 500,000 tickets. But let's look at a state lottery raffle - in the above, 7,777 prizes out of 625,000 tickets = 0.012 4432 Take that down to 0.012, or 12 one-thousandths and that means 12 out of every 1,000 tickets win - still trying to find one particular grain of sand at the beach. Maybe my numbe

Revamped PA Millionaire Raffle - This Summer
There will still be 625,000 tickets sold for $20 each. But there is a whole new prize structure. There will now be 7,777 winners (for the draw date 7-7-07) among the tickets sold (compared to 760 in the previous raffle). That improves the odds of winning to about 1 in 80 (down from 1 in 833). Even the payout has gone up, albeit slightly. 51.6536% of sales will go toward prizes in the new raffle, as opposed to 50% before. Here's the deal: # Of Prizes Odds Of Winning $1,000,000 5 1

Raffle or Not?
Since this thread is still going, I'll add this; Despite the fact that it's proven over and over that 70- 80% of ticket sales for jackpot games are quick picks, and 70 to 80% of winning tickets are quick picks, there are still people that refuse to play quick picks. OK, that's fine. But then here comes a raffle, which, in essence is a $20 quick pick and nothing but a quick pick, and with that comes raffle fever , even among some of those people who insist quick picks are a waste. Go fi

% of Population Which Play the Lottery?
KYFloyd Florida has a population of about 16 million. As an average about 1 in 13 people bought one of the raffle tickets, but as you say, averages don't always tells us anything useful. That's assuming all 16 million are legally eligible to purchase raffle tickets (or lottery tickets). If we reduce the 16 million by those under age (not every place in FLa. is St Petersburg ) then it's going to be a lot less than one in 13, no?

Ohio Lottery panel rejects new Gov.'s call for smaller prizes
Lottery officials responded yesterday to a report from Gov. Ted Strickland's transition advisers that said the lottery has an inordinately high percentage of prize payouts. It seemed to me the report was about the profitability of some of the scratch-off games and not the lottery in general. Governor Strickland probably got similar reports from his transition advisers concerning all state agencies. Does he need to purchase a hunting, fishing or liquor license to understand those reports t

Raffle or Not?
I was going to start another topic, but this relates directly to the Raffle. Has anyone read the Florida press releases for the Raffle? There is currently a list of all the people who have claimed their prize. 2 of them are $1 million winners and then they list the $100,000 and $10,000 winners by name and city. We've had numerous posts about anonymity, and I realize that if I won a jackpot my name would be in the news since it's considered to be a public record in Florida. However, if I

New NY Lotto 59 in March-will it still be a ripoff?
The NY raffle will be a scratch game instead. Given it's the NY Lottery, I expect the million-dollar prizes to be annuity-only. Then again, if NY held a true raffle, the payout probably would be 40%. Even though I'm not a numbers player, I like the idea of winning for matching the lump sum of the three/four digits. As for Lotto Extra, I wonder what the four additional ways are. No US lottery game AFAIK has drawn two bonus balls.

Florida Lottery Holiday Millionaire Raffle Results
Too bad they can't take a few tips from you, Todd. I didn't buy a ticket, but when I signed on today to the Florida site, I was automatically redirected to the page with the raffle numbers. I thought that was very strange since some members here said they were having trouble accessing it and I wasn't even looking for it. Very weird. I used my bookmark which always goes directly to home page. At that time they only listed 3 of the million dollar winners and then skipped to #12 which was $100,0
