Coin Toss, once I got into this same type of discussion by mentioning the mortgage crisis. Yet I was also told I still don't understand basic math. It appears to me that if you have 176,000,000 combinations, by purchasing 1/2 of the tickets or 88 million, it means your odds are now 50/50! The only way they'd be 50/50 is if there were 2 choices and you bought one of them. Still, forgetting mathematical concepts for a minute, the idea that buying a few extra tickets really makes much of a diff

When you're talking about 5 sequential numbers in a row like 1 2 3 4 5, there are only 51 of them in PB combinations so the odds of that pattern coming up are 5:3,478,761.

the lottery wont let you win a huge amount of money in powerball or mega million withouth making it very difficult to win. i know what 1 in 100 million mean. it means if you take 100 million $1 doller bills stacked up including just one fake one, your odds of knowing where the fake one is 1 in 100 million. you know how hard that is?

To each his own, some players would rather spend $20 for 20 chances to win $10,000 with odd of 1:584,442 with PB (4/55+1/42) with a shot at winning much more than 20 chances to win $500 with odds of 1:1000 with pick3.

Your right, I don't know the sales figures. That's why I think it would be better to base the increase off of the sales rather than have one set amount. The odds of winning are 1:12,271,512 and I don't know how well you follow the lottery or not, but the Hoosier Lotto is rarely ever won. Perhaps the news should begin questioning them again? ;)
