Most lottery games start with a top prize equal to 20% of less of what it would cost to buy all its possible combinations. Ohio Rolling Cash5 is a 6/39 game with 575,757 possible combinations so its jackpot starts at 100 grands, but tonight it has rolled to over 600 grands which has never happen before.

$500/drawing isn't enough to make much difference at all in the odds against you winning the jackpot. Powerball, for instance, is (as I remember) a game where the odds in hitting the jackpot are something like 142 million to one. That means there are 142 million different combinations with the PB that exist. To cover them all you would have to spend $142 million on the game.
