Does anyone here know the history of the matrix changes for PB and MM?
Both games are basically all or nothing because the lower prize payoffs are terrible compared to the odds. Matching two numbers plus the bonus number in PB will net you $5 with odds against of 706 to 1. The same $2 bet on any pick-4 box (single or double) combo will net you at least $398 with odds against of 570 to 1. The odds against a $2 PB bet netting $98 by matching 4 numbers is 12,245 to 1 and a $2 straight bet with 10,000 to 1 odds nets $9998.
MM lowered their overall odds of winning so

Can math and logic improve chances of winning a jackpot?
I pasted the correctly calculated odds above.
The odds are posted on the Texas Lottery website and only you know why it was necessary to calculate and show them here.
Jackpots are paid for the extremes, so there are 2 jackpots.
If there really are two jackpots, someone is ignoring the fact one ticket can only win one jackpot and believe it or not none of the other prizes with two chances to win can't win twice either. The odds are correct on the website (1 in 2,704,156) because once

Do some number combinations have better odds?
1) you're now saying if I make two bets, the odds are lowered to 18 to 1 as if 18 of the possible losing outcomes magically disappeared.
You said the odds of betting five numbers is 33:5 so two bets must be 36 to 2 and the same percentage as 18 to 1 and the same odds. Jimmy's favorite gambling expert is the Wizard of Odds and he always reduces the odds to the lowest common denominator; is his logic flawed too?
2) It's an accumulative effect because the odds against any of the five numbers

Who has better odds of hitting 3 of 5 ?
I believe I made a mistake by reducing the odds to the lowest common denominator when the true odds are much higher. It's really doing Harry Potter math by pretending many of the chances against winning magically don't exist. The odds against matching three numbers are 306 to 1 so the usual approach is to divide 306 by the number of tickets played. In this example it would be 306 divided by 46 or 6.65 to 1. Odds should be expressed as chances to lose compared to chances to win so the odds might

What are the chances of ever winning the 2nd place prize for PB or MM?
The last place you should look is on any state's Odds and Payoff charts because who knows how they figure the odds. There are 5,006,386 possible combinations in a 5/59 matrix, but the charts give odds of matching 5 + 0 as 5,153,633 to 1. Because they give 55 to 1 odds against matching the bonus number, I'm assuming they base their odds on the number of QPs needed to be purchased before a QP player should expect to match the bonus number. So I'm assuming their higher number for matching 5 + 0 is

Buying More Tickets Does Not Increase Your Odds.
I know this is a mistake to weigh in here again, but I'm so tired of this nonsense. A simple google quest of does buying more tickets increase your chance of winning the lottery turns up this answer. (hint: YES IT DOES!!!) Now if you still want to argue with Doctor Math so be in... continue to believe that extra tickets don't help your odds, and the world is indeed flat... and of course good luck with that bridge investment!

Lucky and unlucky Scratch-off ticket numbers
No, not Powerball or Mega Millions. Those have jackpot odds of 1 in 195,249,054 and 1 in 175,711,536, respectively. Those are astronomical odds. I have hit 3 out of 5 on Fantasy 5 a few times, but this is the first time that I had 4 out of 5 numbers, but I did not play them. I don't have a playslip, but I do have a file with a timestamp to prove this. Although Fantasy 5 might only pay out $50,000 to $500,000 on average, it has jackpot odds of 1 in 575,757. That is more than 300 times better odds

Math Odds Question
In listing odds there is difference between expressing them as to or for . Odds of 10 to 1 means you win $10 and keep your $1. Most lotteries express odds of 500 to 1, but keep the $1 so we actually win $499. The odds should be 500 for 1.
Race tracks express odds in to and payoff by giving back the initial bet; that's why when the odds on a horse is 4 to 1, the payoff is $10 on a $2 bet.

A question for Illinois scratcher players...
I asked the Illinois Lottery via email if they had detailed prize odds available for all of their instant games. I received a response earlier today and they stated that the detailed prize odds are on the back of each ticket. I know that the overall odds of winning is usually printed on the back of the ticket, but I wouldn't have thought that the detailed prize odds would also be printed on the back as well.
Can any of you Illinois scratcher players confirm that? I'm just wanting to be sure t
